Fairytale Theater: Frog and Toad Ages 5yr-10yr Seleia Neal Winter/Spring 2021 Arts

Description:Join us as we play, act, dance, and sing! Jump into a magical land of make believe with a special script written by and for your young performers!In this class we will take well known stories of Frog and Toad and add a bit of humor as we turn them into a script! Children develop confidence as they get their first glimpse of the joy of theater. Your young actors will learn theater vocabulary and develop their stage presence through games and practice. Wear costumes, play with props, and have all sorts of fun as we prepare for our big show! Parents are asked to help with memorization by practicing lines with their young actors at home. Students will get to show off what they have learned in front of an audience at The Main Stage Theatre Showcase April 27th! Invite your family and friends, admission is free. (Mandatory dress rehearsal April 26th.) Please note that this is an 11 week class, and will NOT continue after the showcase.

Junior Pottery Wheel I Ages 10yr-14yr Sia Hoyt Winter/Spring 2021 Arts

Description:Pottery students will learn the basic techniques of wheelwork: throwing on the electric wheel and the more ancient practice of creating coil pots on the banding wheel. There will be demos, instruction of how to make basic vessels and plenty of creative freedom for thoughtful or independent learners. This class is for beginning, intermediate or advanced ceramics students. In addition, pottery students will have the opportunity to come for open studio time 1 in addition to class.

Scripture Art Ages 11yr-19yr+ Ellie Tauscher Winter/Spring 2021 Arts

Description:The purpose of this class is to inspire scripture reading and memorization by making it beautiful! By exploring different mediums (including watercolors, acrylics, 3D media and more) students will be encouraged to create beautiful artwork based on scripture by learning different techniques each week and completing their own personalized canvas as a final project during the last few weeks of the term. Description:This class will be helpful for anyone who is interested in learning how art developed throughout the ages. We will be learning a different period of art as it progressed each week, starting with cave art and ending with modern art. There will be a project each week based on what we’ve learned. For example, in the time of Mesopotamia, your homework will be a drawing of a statue in Persepolis. At the end, you’ll be expected to write an essay on what you’ve learned about the various art stages throughout history.

Improv Comedy Ages 12yr-18yr Melanie Neal Winter/Spring 2021 Arts
Schedule: Tuesday - Auditorium - 002: 2:00 pm - 2:50 pm
Description:This class introduces students to the core fundamentals and principles of improv, focusing on various games and exercises that encourage trust, communication, agreement (“yes and”), character, status, and making your scene partner look good. We will focus on skills needed for character work, an element essential to dynamic improvised scenes. Actors will explore creating their characters through both internal motivations (point of view, status, wants and intentions) and external motivations (like experimenting with physicality). Actors learn how to make choices in scenes that help define their character. We will complete active exercises that explore different ways to create and sustain characters in a scene. We will also continue to hone the skills necessary for doing strong scene work and building ensemble. Additional outside workshops and performance/competition opportunities may be available throughout the year at an additional cost. Improv students will be able to perform for family and friends at the Main Stage Theatre Showcase on April 27th (mandatory dress rehearsal April 26th).

Folk Art & Design- Teen Ages 13yr-18yr Sia Hoyt Winter/Spring 2021 Arts

Description:In this unique class, artists will study folk art and design. A favorite, students adore this class because it delivers fresh ideas and new appreciation of the designs around us everyday, instilling confidence of drawing freely and simply. There will be inspiration drawn from books containing simple illustrations and border designs. With help, students will build up a full, stunning portfolio including their assigned projects and personal free time work. There will be teacher demos and plenty of encouragement. Mediums used: pen & ink, colored pencils and watercolors. Level: beginning-advanced.

Description:You already have a firm grasp of the foundations of a portrait? Want to firm up the techniques of shading and layering? This class covers what happens after...You’ll be expected to already know how to correctly draw from a reference. We’ll be honing in on details, lots of detail, and asking questions along the way. We already have the roadmap for the face, now the adventure is driving/drawing it! *If you completed this class last semester, you may take it again and I will give you challenges that will involve speed drawing, drawing the whole portrait with the paper upside down, different methods of shading involving pointillism, etc. You are allowed to waive the supply fee.
