- Writing
Schedule: Monday - Classroom - 228: 3:00 pm - 3:50 pm
Wednesday - Classroom - 228: 3:00 pm - 3:50 pm
Description:Students will work to improve their argumentative writing by flexing their critical thinking muscles. We will begin the semester by analyzing written work and developing a baseline for what good argument writing looks like. We will read and discuss scenarios that involve the need for solid argument and text based evidence to persuade an audience, developing a foundation for writing our own arguments. Students will then work together to solve a real world issue. In a proposal argument, students will describe a significant problem and a reasonable solution, applying all of the skills developed in the first semester. We will also improve our critical thinking through reading, writing, and discussion, and will attend to basic research skills, including MLA documentation. Additionally, we will practice the writing traits of word choice, sentence structure, ideas and organization. Lessons for the first semester will come from Argumentative Writing and Critical Thinking 6-12. We will also explore arguments in other texts—in popular culture, advertisements, and websites. This will include the reading of To Kill a Mockingbird, and stories by Edgar Allen Poe. Students need to have access to a laptop or tablet that they can bring to class and use at home for research and word processing. If you are in 7th grade, you must have taken my Middle School English class as a prerequisite. Bring a laptop or tablet, paper, pencils, highlighters, binder or other organization system. Art History Inspired Ages 11yr-16yr Avonlea Allemann Spring 2023 Arts
- General Art
Schedule: Monday - Art Studio - 129: 3:00 pm - 3:50 pm
Description:This class is for those who want to know more about how art was formed in different countries through various artists. Each week, we will be doing a craft, drawing, or making a mixed media project centering around an artist, country, or both. For instance, we would do a colored pencil optical illusion print which started out in Greece. Or focus on a painting of Monet's water lilies while listening to popular music from that time period. Some pieces may take a few weeks while others will take just one week. We'll start out simple with a lesson in drawing and color before we move onto more complicated works of art. Some of the works to come include a still life, paper lanterns, a Thomas Kinkade inspired house, etc. This class will be very family friendly with what is shown and talked about. Homework will be a write up of what you learned about that artist and/or country to go with each project you finish that week. The supply fee will cover a sketchpad and quality colored pencils that they will get to keep as well as cardstock and other paints I will bring for students to use at their disposal.

Art Lab Ages 10yr-18yr Ellie Tauscher Spring 2022 Arts
- General Art
Schedule: Thursday - Art Studio - 129: 2:00 pm - 2:50 pm
Description:"This will be an “open art lab” time for students in art classes to work on projects they’ve started in class and play with techniques they’re learning in addition to class times. We will be open to students coming every week or on an “as needed” basis (with parental approval) but registration for this class is required for either format. I will be available for tutoring or assistance during this time as well as making sure any approved materials are available from the teachers cabinets. Our heart in the art department is that students grow and play with art and learn to enjoy creating both in and out of class, and this is an opportunity to do that. No prerequisites required to come and participate with students own materials. In order to use teacher materials students must be enrolled in an art class and have approved material usage with their teacher. Students will bring their own materials or request permission from their teachers to use teacher materials during lab time. Students should bring their own notebook, sketch book, or paper to use and have a project in mind to work on during lab. There will be no homework. "
