Do you want to know how to be a good pet owner? Would you like to know which animals make good pets? In this class you will be introduced to some familiar and unfamiliar animals as we learn together what is required to care for a pet. We'll play games, make crafts, watch short video clips, and even interact with some furry (and not so furry) pets. Throughout the course we will be creating and collecting mini books and students will construct a lapbook of their own on the last day of class to take home. Students will also have the opportunity to "borrow" a hamster and practice for a week if pre-approved by the parent. Some pets we will discover besides cats & dogs include rodents, reptiles, insects, fish and birds.

Take the mystery out of learning phonics & handwriting. This year-long class will use a multisensory/kinesthetic approach to introduce the short vowels sounds as your child begins to practice *reading & *writing CVC words (consonant/vowel/consonant, "mat"). Each week we will explore a new consonant letter for reading/phonics and proper letter formation, through the help of: puppets, songs, crafts, manipulatives, dress-up days, share days and snack days too.
Each little detective will be going through Explode the Code- Book 1 (I will provide). We will also be using corresponding Bob Book readers and Learning Without Tears concepts for our handwriting instruction.
Students will build a darling notebook of their projects and ETC pages to take home at the end of the year.

PREREQUISITE - must have completed fall/winter term in order to register for this class. Not accepting new students.
This course is for students continuing their formal study of the sciences. We will be using Apologia's Physical Science, 2nd edition. Students should have taken Apologia's General Science previously, but it is not a prerequisite. As a core class, students will receive a grade based on lab participation and module test scores.
We will aim to cover one module every two weeks. Class time will focus on review of concepts from the text and lab work. The course covers basic concepts of chemistry, physics, meteorology, and astronomy.
Students will need to have access to our Google Classroom. We will not use class time for tests. Each module test will be posted on the Classroom stream after the module and appropriate labs have been completed. Instructions for tests will be provided in class.
Materials Required: Students need to bring a pen or pencil, their lab notebook, and their textbook.
This is a CORE class that meets twice a week for the full year. Parents are required to attend the mandatory Core Parent Meeting immediately following Family Orientation on either August 24th at 2pm, August 24th at 6pm, September 7th at 2pm, or September 7th at 6pm.
Physics is an applied math course that explains the physical laws guiding God's world. Topics will cover kinematics, forces, momentum, energy, fluids, thermodynamics, and more, all using a student-friendly text. This class is a good fit for students who enjoy math and science and are interested in a career in the STEM field. This is a full-year course intended to satisfy a student’s high school science credit requirements. Teacher will supplement the text content, administer labs, grade tests, and provide an overall course grade based on test scores, homework completion, and in-class participation. Parents will administer tests at home, sign off on all homework assignments, and maintain communication through Slack.
Requirements:
Students must have strong math skills - most physics problems involve solving for an unknown using multiple equations, unit conversions/dimensional analysis, and geometry concepts (sin, cos, tan). Math concepts will be taught in class and in the book but an underlying speed and accuracy with mathematics is vital. Prerequisites: Algebra 1/Geometry.
