- General Science
Schedule: Tuesday - Classroom - 220: 4:00 pm - 4:50 pm
Description:I hope you are curious, because in this class we will discover a lot about God’s creation. Our topics for this year will be creation, the universe (stars, planets, rockets), Earth, rocks & minerals, weather, the plant kingdom, the animal kingdom, the human body and some physics, chemistry and dinosaur fun. Kids will build interactive science notebooks and learn memory songs using "Considering God’s Creation" for our main text. Each lesson will include a variety of crafts & activities. Kids will use the scientific method for our experiments. We will also do biographies of godly scientists. “I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in.” - George Washington Carver. Join me as we share this year-long class together to listen to God speak about His creation.
Requirements:Kids do not need to be proficient readers/writers for this class. Students should be ready to write a few words each week (they can trace or copy from the board). Students will be encouraged to follow 3-step directions, work independently, ask for help if needed, take turns, and show kindness and respect to the teacher and fellow classmates. About once a month I may have a take-home assignment for the kids to do and bring back. Kids will keep an additional science notebook at home for optional Charlotte Mason-style nature studies during the week.

- Computer Science
Schedule: Thursday - Computer Lab - 125: 1:00 pm - 1:50 pm
Description:This course will introduce students (ages 13-18) to computer programming using the Scratch language, which was designed in 2007 by MIT to teach fundamental programming concepts to young people. The curriculum will focus on concepts for designing, programming, and developing a video game to help maintain student engagement, retention, and interest, but the skills learned apply to any kind of computer programming. The course will also include a presentation, as each student must “pitch” his game idea to an audience during the final week. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to attend those days! More information will be provided in Slack at that time. This is a one semester course (16 weeks) that meets once a week. If students are not able to bring a laptop to class, additional time at the resource center may be required for them to use the FPHRC computer lab. Students taking the Computer Programming Using Scratch course will learn: fundamental programming concepts, such as loops, variables, and conditionals; different areas of computer programming, including graphics, audio, and logic; understanding user interactions, interfaces, and events; formally defining and designing a computer program
Requirements:Students must have the “Scratch Coding for Beginners” book, which can be purchased on Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BMLQ5Z2D . In addition, students must bring a laptop or tablet on which the Scratch app will be installed. Scripture Art Ages 10yr-19yr+ Tauscher, Ellie Fall 2022 Arts
- Multi Media
Schedule: Tuesday - Art Studio - 129: 11:00 am - 12:20 pm
Description:In this class we will cover a variety of mixed media art techniques and talk about the beauty of letting your art be inspired by scripture. We will cover the basics of watercolor, acrylic, hand lettering, and much more. We will spend several weeks at a time exploring and playing with different mediums followed by opportunities to create more complete pieces of art founded on Bible verses chosen by the students for their own work. At the end of the term we will put all of their skills to use creating their own individual pieces on canvas for them to take home. I have been offering this class at the resource center for three years now and the ingenuity and creativity of the students I’ve had always astounds me! It brings me such joy to see my students growing not only in their artistic abilities through this class but in their increased knowledge of God’s word. In addition, their self discovery as we work together to push their boundaries, try new things, and see the value of imperfections and learning from mistakes is beautiful as I watch them growing into young men and women of God. I look forward to guiding even more students through this super fun class this fall! I hope you’ll join us! Please bring supplies I will provide in the first class as well as a good attitude and a verse to work with each class.
