Tutoring one to one although I am open to tutoring multiple students from the same family together depending on the situation. $30/hr. Several Students from the same family would still be the fee for 1 hr. If it became apparent the needs could not be met for multiple siblings we might have to increase the number of hours. This course is an excellent opportunity for students to conquer their fears and develop essential communication skills! Recognizing the widespread apprehension surrounding public speaking, the course aims to equip students with the tools and confidence needed to excel in various speaking scenarios.
Covering both small and large-group communication ensures that students are prepared to engage effectively in any setting, whether it's a one-on-one conversation, a group discussion, or a formal presentation. Through a variety of projects such as speeches, PowerPoint presentations, and small group meetings, students will have ample opportunities to practice and refine their speaking abilities.
In this class we will have public speaking events, debates, and end the class with a mock trial. This class is designed to make your student a confident speaker, a better debater, and learn the basics of how trials work in government. Our mock trial will take place in front of an audience as we will invite Firmly Planted members to come watch. All of our class assignments will include controversial topics such as: The current wars taking place, gender dysphoria, abortion, illegal immigration, etc. All of these topics will be approached from a Christian Conservative viewpoint, with the opportunity to learn what those who disagree with us think and how we can dismantle those lies. We will look for truth in the Bible as well as deep dive into history to learn where these ideas came from and what agenda the people pushing these ideas had in the earliest stages of each movement.
Welcome to Read Aloud Read Along! The books I chose to read are: The Tale of Jolly Robin, The Tale of Solomon Owl, and, if we have time, The Tale of Paddy Muskrat. They tell about the adventures of these small creatures and their friends. They are filled with joy, compassion, warmth, laughter, and much more. We will not only read their stories, but throughout the books, we will learn a little bit about these birds and the muskrat. The students will retell the stories chapter by chapter, and work on some early reading skills, or different activities for their level.
Requirements:
Ability to sit and listen for 30 minutes without being a distraction to the other kids.
Reading comprehension is critical element of learning from books. The goal of this course is to teach students how to analyze what they read. Each week the class will read age-appropriate fiction or non-fiction selections aloud, then engage in a teacher-led discussion about the material. Students will be encouraged to read aloud and verbally process their thoughts. Student will also participate in pre-writing (composition) activities, such as diagraming selected readings to observe structure of source texts.
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
• Summarize or retell a story
• Identify main idea and supporting details
• Draw conclusions and make inferences
• Define vocabulary words using contextual clues
• Identify story parts (setting, characters, problem, solution)
• Identify cause and effect
• Make predictions about what might happen next
Requirements:
Prerequisite: Student must be ready to transition from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.” Incoming student must be able to read age-appropriate source texts without much help from adults. Source material used in this course is written for 3rd and 4th grade readers.
