This theater crew class is the behind the scenes team for our spring production of Anne of Green Gables. Participating in a theater crew offers a unique experience that combines creativity, teamwork and hands-on skills. For students to have the opportunity to see a show come together after weeks of hard work is immensely rewarding.
Our crew team will spend the first hour of each week in a combined class with the cast members, learning some of the basics of theater. This will help the cast and crew establish comradery. The last two hours the crew team will work on various tasks, some of which being set design and build, prop design and technical planning.
All of our hard work will culminate in an exciting weekend of live performances - filled with plenty of opportunities for learning to stay calm under pressure, quickly adapting and problem solving and effective communication with peers! Being a part of our crew theater team is so much more than executing an entertaining experience for audience members. We provide the opportunity for character growth that translates into each student's life "beyond the stage."

Description:
Welcome to our first ever Drama Class for early elementary kids! This session, we’ll be adapting a children's book written by one of our very own teachers, Larry Choate, "There’s a Giant Spider in Joey’s Front Yard", into a short play! The story invites us to explore how each creature God created has unique talents and purposes—even those we may fear! Through theater games and fun exercises, your student will learn about the basics of acting and how to use imagination to bring characters to life.
In this pared-down performance, we’ll skip costumes and sets to focus on expression and storytelling. I’ll narrate while the children act out their scenes. We’ll wrap up with a small performance on the final day, creating an intimate experience for families in a cozy space so everyone can hear and enjoy. Looking forward to a fun journey into storytelling with all of you!
Whether your child wants to be a star, or just experience being on stage for the first time, Center Stage Kids is the place to be! For the Spring Semester we will be performing Mark Twain's classic tale of “ The Prince & the Pauper.” The moral lesson of this story teaches us that people should not be judged by their appearance, but rather by their character, actions, and values A tale which offers the perfect balance of poignant and hilarious moments as we follow the adventures of the two main characters. This streamlined program requires some volunteer parent involvement, mainly for student supervision while the director is working with students on stage. Center Stage Kids is comprised of 16 class rehearsals, one dress rehearsal, and two performances. IMPORTANT DATES: January 6: Monologues will be available at the Front Desk for Cast students to take home and memorize in preparation for their auditions. January 30: Auditions in class. February 6: Mandatory Parent Meeting from 3 PM-3:30 PM, at the start of our second class. April 19: Super Saturday. May 23: Dress Rehearsal 4 PM-7 PM. May 24: Performances at 2 PM & 6 PM, plan to ARRIVE at 12:30pm and plan for a dinner break in between shows. May 25: Strike the stage & Theater Party, time TBD.
Requirements:
Parents need to work with their child to memorize their lines. Parent participation is appreciated if you are available for student supervision. REQUIREMENTS: Families will need to purchase the costume for their child's character. (Selected by the director) Costumes usually cost approximately $30-$50.
Have you ever wanted to know what happens behind the scenes during a play? In this class students learn just that! Every student will get to participate in using their creative skills to make sets and props to be in the performance of "The Prince & the Pauper". They will also learn great leadership and teamwork skills while working together backstage to create the scenes for the cast to preform. Kids will also have the opportunity to learn some tech skills in operating spotlights and handling mics. This class will work alongside the cast production and will occasionally join together for the weekly class time. IMPORTANT DATES: January 30: Mandatory Parent Meeting from 5-5:30 PM, after our first class. April 19: Super Saturday. May 22: Cue to Cue - CREW ONLY. May 23: Dress Rehearsal 4 PM-7 PM.
