Do you feel drawn to the ocean with fascination for the creatures that inhabit it? Join me as we study the basic chemistry and building blocks of life, marine plants and animals, and the ecosystems of the sea. We will also study these things up close and personal as we start up the Center's huge saltwater fish tank. This is the first half of a two-semester course. While we will be reading a high school level science book, this course is appropriate for upper middle school students as well as high school, and is equivalent to one science credit (if both semesters are completed.) Each student will be required to acquire and keep a loose leaf lab notebook and will be graded on the contents of that notebook. The required text for this class is Apologia's "Exploring Creation with Marine Biology." Please bring both the textbook and the lab notebook to each class each week. Daily reading assignments from the required text, worksheets and tests will be done at home while class time will be devoted to lab experiments, microscopic study, observation and documentation. An average of 5 hours of homework expected each week, but middle school students will be offered a modified homework schedule.
**This class is only 15 weeks long this term as the teacher will be out of town the second week of class. Admin and teacher fees have been adjusted.

Mashoonga offers more than just a fun sparring activity with foam sabers; it's a platform for students to cultivate honor, sportsmanship, and character. While the thrill of the game is undeniable, the core values of honesty, self-regulation, and integrity are emphasized throughout. Underneath the excitement of wielding foam sabers lies a structured game with clear rules and expectations of conduct. Through Mashoonga, students not only learn physical skills but also develop important life skills such as teamwork, respect for opponents, and resilience. It is essential to acknowledge the inherent risks associated with any contact sport. Safety measures and supervision are prioritized to minimize the possibility of injury while ensuring that students can fully immerse themselves in the experience.

Fight for honor! Fight for glory! Join our full-contact foam sword fighting class this fall as we work to reignite a championship team.
The purpose of this class is not bashing each other with foam swords, however. Well, actually, yeah, it is, for the most part, but we will spend a lot time exploring how Christians can compete honestly in line with Scripture and putting those principles into action. There will be some reading and homework, but mainly at the beginning of the session. Mostly, you’ll just be hitting each other with foam swords, which is really what you want to do, right?
Students will need to purchase a set of Mashoonga sabers and will be responsible for their maintenance. We will have intramural competitions at the end of each semester, and, possibly, a tournament in the spring against other homeschool co-ops fielding their own teams, depending on whether area co-ops continue to offer this class as well.
Students will need a set of Mashoonga foam swords; information on purchasing these will be sent out after registration
Homework: 1-2 hours/week, mainly for the first couple of weeks.

Calling all math detectives! A criminal mastermind is on the loose and your math skills are needed to put them behind bars! Students will solve clues using a combination of logic puzzles, brain teasers, and math problems to ultimately crack the case. Short math lessons will be provided at the beginning of the class to aid students in solving the clues. No prerequisites required; if they are unable to solve their clues during the allotted class time, students will need to finish them at home prior to the next week's class.
