Description:In this class, we will be drawing what we see around us in our day to day lives. Observational Drawing Jr. will: help strengthen memory, increase fine motor skills, and develop spatial awareness. Subject material will be pulled from everyday life, indoors and outside (weather permitting). In order to recreate what they observe, this class will build on the elements and fundamentals of art such as line, shape, shading, space, perspective, depth, and form to name a few. Materials include: sketchbook, drawing pencil to keep, as well as shared drawing tools for in class use.

Description:This Middle School level course will focus on the Elements of Art and Composition through fun and interesting drawing projects. The course will enhance and round out your student’s education through the development of creativity, critical thinking skills, art history, and art appreciation. Students will be taught technical skills using graphite pencils and pen and ink during the fall semester, then shift to colored pencils, soft pastels, and oil pastels during the spring semester. For the best experience, Miss Lucinda recommends following this sequence. Artistic Pursuits is an award-winning comprehensive art program designed to involve students in the Creative Process while developing observational skills.
Requirements:Please note that this is a structured class that is a good fit for students who are interested in learning new things and are able to listen and follow directions. ** Supply & teacher payments are due August 28th. Description:We will engage your student’s imagination through read aloud stories and coordinating projects. Alternating between guided projects and ‘free play” clay. Students will be guided through the basics of clay sculpture, pinch pots, coil making, slip and score and more. This tactile medium will be used to help cultivate fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, attention to detail and storytelling. Artwork will range from a small, guided projects completed in one day and projects that may take two or more sessions to complete. The class will explore both sculptural and functional wares over the course of our 16 weeks together.

Description:This year-long studio course provides an introduction to the visual arts as a foundational base for your young student’s art education. Using Artistic Pursuits as the base curriculum, Miss Lucinda will offer hands-on experience with drawing and painting, along with various other fun media and techniques - plus some holiday projects added in. Students will learn to think like an artist, handle materials and understand the subject matter of the artist. Classes will include art history appreciation, demonstrations, and creative studio time, and will always include references to the Seven Elements of Art (Line, Space, Shape, Texture, Value, Form, and Color). Please note that this is a structured class that is a good fit for students that are interested in learning new things, and are able to listen to instructions and follow directions.

Open Studio Ceramics Ages 13yrs-19yrs+ Gregory, Tracy Spring 2024 Arts

Description:*students enrolled in a teaching ceramics class do not pay the supply fee for this class* This is a 2 hour delight directed course for students who want more time/freedom exploring the medium of clay. Students are required to outline their own project objectives for the term. Students may check out books and magazines from our ever-growing library of Ceramic Literature, they will have free access to all the tools in the studio, including wheels, slab roller, hand building tools, etc. Students are expected to be fully responsible for set up and clean-up of their personal project as well. Project ideas: make a matching set of cups and saucers, practice throwing consistent size tumblers, sculpt garden art, create a wall hanging out of tiles. We will discuss a timeline for each project, the student will then be expected to work on their own during class. I will oversee their projects and check in with them weekly. I am on hand the entire class for questions, and inspiration.
Requirements:*For students enrolled in a hand building or wheel throwing class, there will be no supply fee for this class* This class is a good fit for students who want the freedom to explore the ceramics medium as their curiosity leads them. Students need to practice self discipline and time management and be able to work independently.
