Description:
In Monster Truck Fun, students will learn interesting STEM-based monster truck facts and Biblical application. Sharon Czerwien will use monster trucks as the main analogy to teach Bible themes such as perseverance, trusting God during tough times, and playing by the rules.
In this monster truck class, Mrs. Czerwien will use her book, "Bumps Are Okay for KIDS and Other Biblical Lessons Learned from Monster Trucks!" Though Mrs. Czerwien will use the material in her book as the main thrust of this class, purchasing the book will not be necessary to enroll.
Monster Truck Fun will include a variety of hands-on and STEM-based activities, short monster truck video clips, painting, sensory bins, and “kid-friendly” Bible application.
All students will be provided with a toy monster truck to use for different hands-on activities. The students will then be able to take the trucks home on the last day.
In the final class, the students will be able to work together to engineer a toy-sized monster truck rally.

This class is designed teach classic ancient history through a biblical worldview. It is a one year class that will meet weekly. Students will learn the archaeological and historical evidence for the Scriptures. The bulk of the class will be spent learning how Israel and the Early Church interacted with and were impacted by major people groups in history. We will explore Mesopotamia, Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece, and Rome.
I am a Washington State certificated teacher, who taught ancient history in a public middle school for eight years. (2013-2021). I also was a Biblical Studies major at Multnomah University. My teaching experience and education combined has equipped me to see history with a Christian worldview. I find it exciting to see what God has done in the past and knowing that helps us to trust his faithfulness today. My hope is to foster a deeper love of God and love of learning in students and help them see history on God's timeline.

This class will focus on creative writing and will include a unit on poetry with a focus on figurative language and poetry writing. The class will also cover narrative writing. with an emphasis on story elements (plot, character, conflict, theme, setting), writing with detail, and more! Students will explore allegory through the reading of C.S. Lewis' "The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe." A copy of the book will be provided by the teacher to be borrowed for the semester. The book will also help with story writing as Lewis writes with detail and engaging dialogue.
Students will need a writing notebook, pencil, sticky notes, and highlighters. Access to a computer will be needed at home to access Google Classroom documents and type coursework for grading.
All students will be given points and feedback for assignments. Homework is minimal for this class.

Examples of challenges that have been implemented in class include the long-distance launcher, the Roman aqueduct project, the paper airplane challenge, the bridge challenge, etc. Concluding the course, students will present their favorite work on the final day of class. ***BECAUSE OF THE HANDS-ON NATURE OF THIS COURSE IT REQUIRES 1-2 PARENT ASSISTANTS.
