This is an early reading comprehension class that uses the art of storytelling as a tool to engage the learner. Children are ready for this class if they are identifying and writing letters, connecting their sounds, are ready to start blending letters to make words, and ready to learn word families. Children who are starting to read my first reading books and level 1 books are a good fit for this class. Every week we will practice a new word family and 1 - 2 new sight words through the art of storytelling. We will learn storytelling terms such as plot, setting, protagonist, antagonist, major & minor characters, and the parts of a story: beginning, middle, end. If you have a creative storyteller at home who is ready to move on from identifying letters and sounds into blending sounds, this might be a good fit!
