Division and being able to divide is vitally important in life and for moving to the next level in math. We will be using the Math U See Delta (yellow) books. Although this book will focus on division, it is a well rounded curriculum covering double digit multiplication, word problems, area, perimeter, long division, standard/metric measurement, fractions, roman numerals and more.
It is important that your student already has a foundation in multiplication for this class. This class is a prerequisite for the next classes in the Math-U-See Curriculum.
The instructor, Mr. Snyder, has a Master’s degree in teaching with 20 years of experience. This class is challenging but I try to make it fun. We work with students to keep the frustration level low. Quality learning is more important than quantity of learning. I want all students to love math as I do.
I hope to see your student in class!

The name says it all. This is a hands-on lovely class with clay, water, shells, a canvas tablecloth and wooden tools. Over the course of our 16 weeks together, students aged 3/4 will make thumbprint ornaments, hand print tiles and, inevitably, sweet little sculptural pieces. Starting with pinch pots, 5/6 yr olds will be making faces, little cups and bowls. All students will have the opportunity to glaze and take home their work. Designed for parents and their young students, this class has become a lovely time for parent socialization while the littles have plenty of freedom to explore the wonderful medium of clay! In this class parents get to make little things, too. Tactile contact is one of the first experiences we have in this life; it is at our roots. So touching clay and experiencing ceramic art is a very grounding experience for students.
Requirements:
Please plan to stay for class if your student is 3/4 years old.
Junior ceramic students are bound to have a lot of fun together in this class as they learn about decoration, carving, smoothing, sculpting and construction in clay. Over the course of our 16 weeks together, some projects we will be doing include: handprint and picture tiles, face tiles, little cups & bowls, boxes, design tiles. Students will have the opportunity to glaze and take home their work. As they work within the structure of the studio, your student will have cleanup duties as well as plenty of creative freedom. This is both for the confident independent junior artists and for thoughtful or hesitant artists. I teach my students to help build up a strong, positive environment by building each other up so the ceramic studio can become a source of art therapy, camaraderie and joy.
