Hello I'm Anna Green, I am a student teacher and I am exited to teach for the first time! Fractions is a year long class that meets twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays. This well rounded curriculum has a focus on fractions, but also includes: mental math, linear measure, multiple digit multiplication and division, variables, geometric figures, and formulas. It is very important that the student knows their multiplication facts 1-10 and has good division skills. Each student will have access to a weekly video they will need to watch before coming to class each Monday.
Requirements:
*Book requirement: Math U See Epsilon student pack (blue book)**Student requirements: Google Classroom app, Marco Polo app, complete all homework and tests***Parent requirements: Weekly signatures on Lesson E and Test(s). IEP students must be accompanied by a parent each week.
This year-long course is a fantastic foundation for students interested in pursuing higher-level sciences! The hands-on approach of exploring various fields of science through experiments not only makes learning engaging and interactive but also provides practical experience in applying scientific principles. By focusing on building math and study skills alongside learning how to write lab reports, students will be well-prepared for the subsequent high school science classes. Completing a minimum of 8 labs ensures that students have ample opportunity to develop their lab skills and gain confidence in conducting scientific investigations.
Requirements:
Students are required to purchase the following calculator - TI36X Pro ($20)

Grab your passport and discover countries & cultures through global crafts, missionary biographies, map skills, crafts, games, art history, world landmarks, holiday celebrations, music ... and international snacks!!! We will travel thorough 6 continents, 24 countries, and learn about a new missionary for each continent. Each week students will add a new flag to their passport, learn about that country’s unique characteristics, label its map, make a craft – and sample tasty snacks to help get that well-rounded cultural experience. We will also study & pray each week for different people groups around the world who need to hear about Jesus. The goal is for our kids to be excited about different cultures, learn basic world geography, but most importantly, to have a heart for missions at home and abroad.
Requirements:
Kids do not need to be proficient readers/writers for this class. Students should be ready to write a few words each week (they can trace or copy from the board). Students will be encouraged to follow 3-step directions, work independently, ask for help if needed, take turns, and show kindness and respect to the teacher and fellow classmates.
About once a month I may have a take-home assignment for the kids to do and bring back.
My name is Jonathan Metz and I absolutely LOVE to share in the Lord's great gift to us that is making music together through song. In the Firmly Planted High School Choir, students will have the opportunity not only to make beautiful, quality, and memorable music together, but take the next (or first) steps in their musical experience, build lasting relationships, and honor God through both song and the act of using their talents. You do not need any prior musical experience to join!
Choir is also integral to the music education of any student who also plays an instrument such as piano, violin, or guitar, or likes to write music. They will develop collaborative skills that the solo performance world does not offer, gain musical artistry through the internalization of music by movement, as well as gain exposure to different genres and styles of music. This ensemble will carry on a Firmly Planted tradition of learning about God and his son, our Great Savoir, Jesus Christ, through short devotionals, particularly God as a creator, using our talents to serve him, worship, and serving one another.
I graduated with a B.A. in music from Western Washington University, focusing on music education and piano. I took especially to choir — studying graduate-level choral conducting and literature with Leslie Guelker-Cone, a noted choir director throughout Washington State. I directed the First Baptist Church of Bellingham Sanctuary Choir for four years following graduation and have guest-conducted and workshopped various groups of different levels including high school, middle school, elementary, and adult ensembles. Highlights include the Bellingham Chamber Chorale, and in 2013, the Interfaith Coalition massed choir — a combined ensemble of over 150 singers. I started a Masters in Music at Indiana University in 2017.
Requirements:
This is a year-long course. A full-year commitment is expected so we are able to build on the skills we learn through the course of the year. There is also a required performance two times a year (at the end of Fall and Spring semesters, respectively). While there is no audition required, all participants must schedule a range and voice-type check with me, the director. No prior singing experience is required to join. 8th-graders (13 years old) are also permitted to join but *do* need to perform an audition, (contact me on Slack if interested). We will have a concert on May 9th and a dress rehearsal May 8.

Parents are required to attend the mandatory CORE Classes Parent Meeting immediately following Family Orientation on either August 27th at 6:45pm or August 29th at 2:45pm. The term “English class” is a long outdated misnomer. What students need is a class focused on the skills needed to read with strong comprehension, write clearly and effectively and to think independently, both deeply and critically. After all, our students already speak the English language with considerable proficiency. What they require is the guidance to wield that knowledge powerfully and wisely.
To that end, this class will focus on these specific areas: a growing love of reading, constant improvement of comprehension skills and sharper discernment regarding the material they read. Along the way, students will be introduced a variety of rhetorical and literary techniques as well as the steps of the writing process, which they will not only learn to recognize but also have the opportunity to apply. Though this class is not a focused literary class students will be asked to ready, analyze and discuss specific texts (including news articles) on a regular basis.
Requirements:
Designed for students in grades 9-12.
The class will meet twice weekly for 50 minute sessions. Because classroom time is limited, our meeting will target activities that cannot be outside of class i.e., mini-lessons, classroom discussions, etc. Because the class structure does not revolve around any particular texts, novels, etc. it can be taken repeatedly by students at all high school grade levels.

Utilizing free online courses from Hillsdale College (online.hillsdale.edu), this class will cover the basics of civics. These will include the founding documents that form the basis for the US government and its structure (Articles of Confederation, Declaration of Independence, US Constitution) and the writings of the men who wrote these documents (Federalist Papers and Anti-Federalist Papers). We will then proceed to studying the three constitutional branches of government, citizenship, and current challenges. Students will need to create an account with Hillsdale College Online. We will be using the following online courses as the basis for this year-long course: Intro to the Constitution, Constitution 101, Constitution 201, Federalist Papers, Presidency and the Constitution, US Supreme Court, Congress: How it Works and Why It Doesn’t, Public Policy from a Constitutional Viewpoint, Civil Rights in American History, American Citizenship and Its Decline, and The American Left: From Liberalism to Despotism. Parents should preview these online lessons, as they occasionally deal with controversial issues and are intended for college students. Students should expect to spend about 1 hour each school day studying for this course by watching the Hillsdale lectures and doing any associated readings. Course quizzes for each section are conducted online. As this is a seminar-type class, students MUST DO THE REQUIRED CLASSWORK DURING THE WEEK AND BE PREPARED TO DISCUSS THE SUBJECT MATTER IN CLASS EACH WEEK.
