Middle school aged students will work to improve their communication skills through oral and written communication. We will focus heavily on the Writing Process, the Traits of Writing, and practice these concepts through expository writing, argumentative writing, and public speaking. Heavy emphasis will be placed on the use of text evidence to support our opinions. In order to do this, students will be expected to research and read a variety of articles that relate to their chosen topics. Also, articles and plays from Scope Magazine by Scholastic will be used occasionally as a way to expand ideas and discussion. Grammar and vocabulary will be woven throughout using Simple Solutions and teacher chosen grammar activities. *Fee note: Students re-enrolling for the second semester will pay a $15 supply fee vs $35 as your workbook was purchased the first semester. Fees will be adjusted after enrollment.

This class is for beginning and returning pottery wheel students. Students will be guided in wheel throwing techniques with the goal of making functional pieces for use in their homes and spaces. They will be encouraged to bring their own ideas to the classroom and will be given exciting demos. Students will also receive instruction in basic terminology of the ceramics studio pertaining to clay body, stages of clay becoming ceramics and the many curious and helpful tools potters use to create their own signature style. Teaching through lecture & demonstration, as well as 1:1 instruction will all be given in this course.

Welcome to the chaos (the good kind)! Middle School Youth Group is where games get loud, snacks disappear fast, and faith starts to make sense in real life. We’ll talk about real stuff—friends, stress, purpose—and learn how God fits into it all. Expect laughter, surprises, and a group that feels more like a team than a class. Come ready to play hard, think deep, and probably get a little messy (in the best way).

Middle School Youth Group is the place to laugh loud, make real friendships, play crazy games, and grow deeper in your faith! Each week students will experience fun activities, worship, Bible lessons, small group discussions, and honest conversations about real life and God’s truth. Our goal is to create a safe, encouraging, and exciting environment where middle schoolers can be themselves, feel connected, and discover who God created them to be.
In Monster Truck Fun, students will learn interesting STEM-based monster truck facts and Biblical application. Sharon Czerwien will use monster trucks as the main analogy to teach Bible themes such as perseverance, trusting God during tough times, and playing by the rules.
In this monster truck class, Mrs. Czerwien will use her book, "Bumps Are Okay for KIDS and Other Biblical Lessons Learned from Monster Trucks!" Though Mrs. Czerwien will use the material in her book as the main thrust of this class, purchasing the book will not be necessary to enroll.
Monster Truck Fun will include a variety of hands-on and STEM-based activities, short monster truck video clips, painting, sensory bins, and “kid-friendly” Bible application.
All students will be provided with a toy monster truck to use for different hands-on activities. The students will then be able to take the trucks home on the last day.
In the final class, the students will be able to work together to engineer a toy-sized monster truck rally.

When you feel weighed down with stress, cast your worries to God.

Mosaic Masterpieces: A Creative Mosaic and Collage Adventure.
With each project, students will learn basic art concepts like balance, contrast, color theory, and composition, while developing fine motor skills and a greater appreciation for the beauty in everyday materials. In this hands-on art class, students will turn old magazines, paper, colored pencils, watercolor, markers and paint pens into beautiful, imaginative works of art! Mosaic Masterpieces encourages creativity, resourcefulness, and self-expression through weekly projects that include collage, mosaic, word art, mixed media, and more.

Students must be able to follow verbal and visual directions and use scissors properly. No prior art experience is needed—just a willingness to explore, create, and have fun! All materials will be provided.
Get ready to wiggle, clap, jump, and sing! This energetic class introduces young children to music and movement through creative play, dancing, rhythm activities, and imagination.
This class is designed teach classic ancient history through a biblical worldview. It is a one year class that will meet weekly. Students will learn the archaeological and historical evidence for the Scriptures. The bulk of the class will be spent learning how Israel and the Early Church interacted with and were impacted by major people groups in history. We will explore Mesopotamia, Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece, and Rome.
I am a Washington State certificated teacher, who taught ancient history in a public middle school for eight years. (2013-2021). I also was a Biblical Studies major at Multnomah University. My teaching experience and education combined has equipped me to see history with a Christian worldview. I find it exciting to see what God has done in the past and knowing that helps us to trust his faithfulness today. My hope is to foster a deeper love of God and love of learning in students and help them see history on God's timeline.
Requirements:
Middle School class grades 5-8. Students will need a notebook, pencil, highlighters, sticky notes, and their Bible. Google Classroom will be used for some assignments. Others will be submitted in person depending on the activity.
