Does your middle or high school student love to read? Love fantasy? JR Tolkien is a fabulous writer who weaves together a tale filled with friendship, adventure, treasure, and a dragon. This term we will read The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. Next term we will read The Two Towers and The Return of the King. All of the reading will be done outside of class. Our class sessions will include exploring the realm of fantasy literature, learning about the author, comparing LOTR to other classic stories, and discovering biblical "treasure" within the story. In addition to reading the story, students will be writing essays, building vocabulary, and understanding literary techniques.
Parents can choose to have this course be a core class (3-4 hours of homework per week) or as an elective (1-2 hours of homework per week). Both groups will have the same in-class experience but you can choose how much outside work you want your student to have.

Join me for a special time of prayer, sharing a meal, and playtime for young children at our center. The Bible encourages us to break bread with one another, and this class provides a wonderful opportunity to do so. In our beautiful early education space, featuring large windows and developmentally appropriate materials, we will gather at a long table. Children should bring a packed healthy meal. Once everyone arrives, we will read scripture, pray, and eat together, discussing manners and good table conversation. After the meal, we will enjoy playtime, followed by cleanup, and conclude with a song and prayer. The supply fee is for extra fruits and veggies for all the children.
Student’s dance skills will be strengthened and they will be stretched to explore dance as an art and means of communicating ideas. We may be dancing with props including ribbons and scarves.
