Set sail for adventure as we follow a small canoe made by a young Indian boy on he journey from Lake Superior to the Atlantic Ocean! Learn geography, nature study, and early American history as we read though this fascinating tale by Holling C. Holling.
Requirements:
Ability to write at 4th grade level for journal writing, follow directions for doing map work, notebooking/ lapbooking, and ability to sit and listen while we do some reading about in each class.
Papier Mache 1 is an art class for middle elementary students who want to learn a variety of techniques to create sculptures out of paper and glue. The first week we will start a sculpture and add more layers until it is ready for the finishing process of sanding, painting, and embellishing the finer detail work. Each sculpture will be stored in class for the drying process in between layers. Sculptures will go home as soon as they are complete and dry for transport.
Requirements:
Weekly attendance is very important as many of our projects will take 2-4 classes to complete. If your child is sick then I will send the materials that they need to complete that layer at home. However, if this class conflicts with vacation/family plans, perhaps another class would be a better choice.
Climb up into the treehouse this year with your fellow Patriots to explore the Godly foundation and growth of our beautiful America from the 1400s to 1899. Students will time-travel through US history all year with crafts, songs, biographies, art history, games, and more! Every week they will do meaningful projects like: build a covered wagon, dump real tea into their Boston Tea Party Diorama, be a rebel and sign the Declaration with a real feather pen!! They will memorize the Pledge of Allegiance, the Star-Spangled Banner, the Preamble to the Constitution and the Gettysburg Address and others. They will also learn how to name & locate all 50 states and create a timeline of US events, - all while creating their own patriotic notebook! Kids will have opportunities to present a few, short reports throughout the year and create their own "Invention" like Thomas Edison.
This is a year-long course that fits beautifully with any Early American History curriculum. We study 8 broad time periods: Native Americans, Explorers, Pilgrims, Colonists, Independence, Pioneers, Civil War and Inventors.

Students should be ready to write a few words each week (they can trace or copy from the board). Students will be encouraged to follow 3-step directions, work independently, ask for help if needed, take turns, and show kindness and respect to the teacher and fellow classmates.
About once a month I usually have a take-home assignment for the kids to do and bring back.

In this drawing class, students learn how to turn a flat piece of paper into a new world. Through fun, step-by-step projects, we’ll discover how artists make things look like they’re popping off the page.
Students will practice simple shading techniques to show light and shadow, and learn how to use a vanishing point to create drawings with real space and distance. These skills help bring everyday scenes—and big imaginative ideas—to life.
From city streets to fantasy to marshmallow still life, students will learn how to draw places they can step into.
Perspective Drawing is a way of drawing that shows what things actually look like in the real world. This course will cover 1-4 point perspective and aerial perspective drawing.
Students will learn how to scan their drawings into the computer for editing into compositions and coloration in Adobe Photoshop.
This class is a good fit for students who desire to learn how to produce strong visual communication. Traditional drawing materials like paper and pencils will be provided.

Come to class with reference material for your projects like computer printouts, library books. thumbnail sketches etc. Water bottles are recommended. Laptops and smartphones are permitted for reference and research during class.

Does your child love pets and animals? Join Pet Pals Club! In this class we'll explore pets both common and obscure and how to care for them. We will learn through storybooks, crafts, Scripture, drawing, sensory activities, imaganitive play, and games. The kids will collect a "badge" each week for the animal we learn about.
Requirements:
Students must go to the restroom before class begins, parents need to be available on slack for any restroom needs during the class time
Take the mystery out of learning phonics & handwriting. This year-long class will use a multisensory/kinesthetic approach to introduce the short vowels sounds as your child begins to practice *reading & *writing CVC words (consonant/vowel/consonant, "mat"). Each week we will explore a new consonant letter for reading/phonics and proper letter formation, through the help of: puppets, songs, crafts, manipulatives, dress-up days, share days and snack days too.
Each little detective will be going through Explode the Code- Book 1 (I will provide). We will also be using corresponding Bob Book readers and Learning Without Tears concepts for our handwriting instruction.
Students will build a darling notebook of their projects and ETC pages to take home at the end of the year.
