Perspective Drawing is a way of drawing that shows what things actually look like in the real world. This course will cover 1-4 point perspective and aerial perspective drawing.
Students will learn how to scan their drawings into the computer for editing into compositions and coloration in Adobe Photoshop.
This class is a good fit for students who desire to learn how to produce strong visual communication. Traditional drawing materials like paper and pencils will be provided.

Do you want to know how to be a good pet owner? Would you like to know which animals make good pets? In this class you will be introduced to some familiar and unfamiliar animals as we learn together what is required to care for a pet. We'll play games, make crafts, watch short video clips, and even interact with some furry (and not so furry) pets. Throughout the course we will be creating and collecting mini books and students will construct a lapbook of their own on the last day of class to take home. Students will also have the opportunity to "borrow" a hamster and practice for a week if pre-approved by the parent. Some pets we will discover besides cats & dogs include rodents, reptiles, insects, fish and birds.

This year-long class will use a multisensory/kinesthetic approach to introduce the short vowels sounds as your child begins to practice *reading & *writing CVC words (consonant/vowel/consonant, "mat"). Each week we will explore a new consonant letter for reading/phonics and proper letter formation, through the help of: puppets, songs, crafts, manipulatives, dress-up days, share days and snack days too.
Each little detective will be going through Explode the Code- Book 1 (I will provide). We will also be using corresponding Bob Book readers and Learning Without Tears concepts for our handwriting instruction.
Students will build a darling notebook of their projects and ETC pages to take home at the end of the year.

Does teaching your child to read feel intimidating? Have no fear, this phonics course will provide the framework for transforming an early learner into a confident reader using the time-tested Spell to Write and Read method. Students will learn to decode the English language by introducing phonics-based spelling rules which form the foundation of the English language. The process of sounding out words, analyzing them and writing them down guides the student to develop analytic thinking skills needed for reading. This methodology incorporates four of the five senses, making it well suited for visual, auditory, vocal, and tactile learners. While this course targets ages 6-8, students at every age benefit from understanding the code the English language is written in. Games are integrated throughout to keep young students interested and engaged.
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
• Say and neatly write a-z phonograms, identifying the sounds of each consonant and vowel while writing
• Identify the sounds of multi-letter phonograms
• Hear and count number of syllables in given words
• Hear, say, write and see (read) the 300 of 1000 most frequently used words in the English language (20 each week), analyzing each word to identify applicable spelling rules
• Produce a learning log of word lists, simple dictated sentences and spelling rules
• Enjoy reading stories in the classroom and look forward to reading at home

Secret Stories® is a brain-based approach to traditional phonics instruction that accelerates learner access to the reading and writing code. Secret Stories® provides the logical explanations for letter sound behavior that learners brains crave. These logical explanations are shared in the form of “secret” stories, which are the secret reasons WHY letters make all of the crazy sounds that they do when they get together in words. The “Secrets” work with any reading series or phonics program. Students will create their own collection of secret stories to keep as their reading guide.
