We will be making play dough, slime, putty, and other things with shaving cream and paints. We will also use dry textures such as beads, beans, rice, and sand. We will also explore writing in various textures or forming letters with them.
In this hands-on class, we will be completing a messy science experiment each week to see how different substances react to each other. Each student will be provided a science journal that will cover the scientific method. We will ask questions, formulate hypotheses, record data and form conclusions.
Requirements:
Due to the experiments, students must be able to listen and follow instructions well.

This is a traditional studio art class for students aged 11-15 who would love more time for projects. It is a year-long class. Some exposure to the Elements of Art would be helpful, but not required. Projects will include a variety of media, such as drawing with graphite, inks, soft pastels, and oil pastels, as well as acrylic painting on various surfaces (including paper, wood, and canvas), and mixed-media projects that incorporate watercolor and ink, collage, and handmade books. This will be a good fit for students who want to develop artistic skills, learn new techniques, and understand art vocabulary. Students will be issued a drawing journal and will be expected to practice their drawing skills at home regularly.

Wednesday - Ceramics Studio - 004: 10:00 am - 10:50 am
Description:
Junior ceramic students are bound to have a lot of fun together in this class as they learn the old craftsmanship of working with clay. In this class students will be learning about decoration, carving, smoothing, sculpting and construction in clay. Students will have the opportunity to glaze and take home their work. Over the course of our 16 weeks together, some projects we will be doing include: Freelance sculptural pieces, tiles, nature collection trays, mugs and vases, beautiful little planters, candle lanterns, carved or stamped pendants, wall hangings, sculptural busts. Your student will be given inspiration for border &filler designs& patterns, weaving the art of drawing into their clay projects. As they work within the structure of the ceramics studio, your student will have cleanup duties as well as plenty of creative freedom. This is both for the confident independent junior artists and for thoughtful or hesitant artists. I teach my students to help build up a strong environment in their classroom by building each other up so the ceramic studio can become a source of art therapy, camaraderie and joy for them. Tactile contact is one of the first experiences we have in this life; it is at our roots, so touching clay and experiencing ceramic art is a very grounding experience for students.
