This is a year-long class! Get ready to learn some basic music notation, sight-reading, and singing a variety of warm-ups and songs! We will also learn about our singing voice as an instrument and how to use it properly to sing. There will be a spring choir concert May 25th for the families where students can perform the songs they learned (participation required).
About the teacher: My name is Anamaria Micu. I have a teaching degree in K-8 education and a music endorsement. I've taught private piano lessons for 25 years and worked as a music teacher at Cornerstone Christian School. I have experience in teaching multiple choirs and small ensembles over the years in the community and various churches. I'm excited to share my love of music with your kiddos!
Important: This class will start February 7th and will have a dress rehearsal May 22nd!
Requirements:
Students must love to sing and be excited about being in class! All students are required to participate in the spring concert and expected to commit to a year so that we can grow in our skills as a choir over the full year!

Sketchbooks are like journals, if you do art in them every day, they'll be a beautiful display of your progression. Our sketchbooks will help us explore and have fun with the different colors. We'll brainstorm in class what students would like to draw as well to get personal input. The supply fee will cover the sketchbook and all color mediums I will provide for the class including oils, watercolor, marker, colored pencil, and more! Some weeks I will assign students with homework - most weeks though, I will have them leave their sketchbooks in my art cupboard to avoid getting lost or forgotten. See my class syllabus for a week by week structured plan for more information.
Slow stitching is a textile art. This is a mindful, creative and ancient practice of using needle and thread, ribbon, lace, buttons, paper, sequins, etc. to create art on fabric. It's a form of hand stitching that can involve a variety of techniques such as patchwork, embroidery and creating circles. This stitching differs from traditional stitching used for mending and making garments because the process is more important than the end result. But skills learned can be used for those things down the road. The goal is to be present and in the moment, listening to your creativity, and allowing your hands to flow across the fabric. This can be good for mental health, calming and focus.
This is a great class for both boys and girls to create art using recycled and untraditional mediums. Each child will get their own starter stitching kit to bring home once class is over. This will be a "go at your own pace" type of class. The students can take their time on one or multiple pieces over the 16 weeks.
Requirements:
Each child must be mature enough to follow directions and be very careful using sharp objects like scissors and needles.
Introduction of DC electricity, We will be learning components and how they work in the electrical circuit as well as learning to use a Volt-Ohm-Amp meter to measure components in the Snap Circuit kit. We will be building simple circuits to more advanced circuits.
Requirements:
Simple math (add, subtract, multiply, divide). If the student has a Snap Circuit SC-100, SC-300, SC500 set the ab supply fee will be waived.
Students must stay focused during the one hour of class time, NO DISRUPTIONS WILL BE ALLOWED OR THE STUDENT WILL BE ASK TO LEAVE
Not a dancer? Not a problem! This dancing is for everyone! Come learn some of the most fun social dances from a life-long dancer who cares more about people than technique and wants to encourage anyone who feels awkward (or comfortable!) to find their own groove on the dance floor. And seriously, some of these dances don't require much more than being able to take four steps forward, backward, or to the side. You do that everyday. This makes it fun! Introverted or worried about crowds? I hear you. I'm willing to work at your pace encouraging you try things you haven't tried before without forcing you to break boundaries you're not yet comfortable with. I believe growth comes from trying new things, but I also believe people are all unique and deserve to be treated with respect--especially regarding personal space. Still not sure? Check out some of these videos if you're curious what kinds of dances we'll do! Also, feel free to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or curiosity regarding this class! I'm happy to listen to you and share my passion for dancing with you, student or parent. :) Easy: Borrowdale Exchange: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFHBidfCyV0 Easy: Boston Tea Party: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff51H03U7FU Medium: Irish Washerwoman: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBgBbRgwr5 Hard: Dayagim: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT-U3YKf9H0 ((Hard will likely not be done in this class unless requested by all students, we will start easy learning steps and moving to more difficult dances as appropriate)) Bring: "~A water bottle! We will take frequent water breaks, but as dancing is exercise and it is quicker to drink closer to class, I recommend bringing your own container to minimize trips to the fountain. ~A good attitude! If a student is unwilling to participate due to poor attitude they will be asked to leave the class and find a parent, but if unable to dance for any other reason all students and/or parents are welcome to stay, watch, and participate as they are able. ~Comfortable shoes/socks/or feet! No flip-flops/flimsy shoes unless you're willing to dance barefoot. I also don't recommend dancing in stilettos. Ouch.
Requirements:
Please bring a waterbottle and a good attitude! This is a very active class and if we are doing it right you will work up a sweat each week!
Thursday - Dance Studio B - 118: 4:00 pm - 4:50 pm
Description:
The Lindy Hop is a social dance that started in 1928 in Harlem, NY. This class will focus on learning the basics of connection, footwork, and movement. We will stay true to the heart of the dance as a social dance and learn to lead and follow the dance, rather than learn a choreographed routine. If you've ever wanted to learn how to dance to the music freely without having to follow a routine, this class is for you!
You'll need: Dance shoes - flat soled tennis shoes will work. Keds or Vans encouraged or leather soled dance shoes. Jazz shoes not recommended, you may get stepped on! Plan to practice at home 15 minutes each day.
