"The peculiar value of geography lies in its fitness to nourish the mind with ideas and furnish the imagination with pictures."- Charlotte Mason. Miss Mason also held that "geography should be learned chiefly from maps, and the child should begin the study by learning 'the meaning of a map,' and how to use it." A basic knowledge of where things are located in the world is severely lacking today. World Geography will acquaint students with the basics of cartography and geography. We will primarily focus on map basics, the locations of countries, cities, and physical features (mountains, rivers, lakes, oceans, etc.) around the world as well as local features, Washington and Oregon counties and cities, and US states. Students will need access to the internet. We will use Seterra and Google Maps extensively. Students will also need to check the class Slack channel regularly, as everything for class will be posted there. Each week, students will be given a list of locations to find and memorize. Students MUST COMPLETE THE MAPWORK AT HOME in order to get any value from this class. Each week, we will cover the next week’s material, play geography games, and take the weekly quiz.

This is a year-long class! About the teacher: My name is Anamaria Micu. I have a teaching degree in K-8 education and a music endorsement. I've taught private piano lessons for 25 years and worked as a music teacher at Cornerstone Christian School. I have experience in teaching multiple choirs and small ensembles over the years in the community and various churches and have sung on worship teams and led worship at several churches. I'm excited to share my love of music with your kiddos! As part of the Worship Choir, students will learn what worship is through various short devotions. Students will learn various worship songs arranged for choirs and learn to sing in 2 and 3 part harmonies, as well as other musics terms and notation. There will be a concert Dec 18 that will showcase all they've worked on (required participation). This choir is audition only (will notify you of audition times).
Requirements:
Must love to sing and give an audition (unless you’ve auditioned for me last year). Participation in the concert is required and a year-long commitment is expected so that we can grow our skills over the course of the year! Each student that signs up must love to sing and be excited to be a part of the class
