This is one of the low points in human history and is not an easy subject to approach. But many things can be learned from looking back at this horrific event that resulted in the extermination of 6 million Jews and millions of other individuals.
We will look at the Nazi party and the years leading up to the Holocaust so that we can understand the historical context of this time period.
Students will explore the human behavior of all individuals involved - from perpetrators to victims, as well as countless others that helped them.
We will attempt to approach this sensitive subject by connecting with testimonies of victims, exploring the thinking of the Nazi regime, and witnessing the unbelievable faith of many Jewish people impacted during these trials.
We will investigate the responsibilities we have to help create a more just, loving, and compassionate world.
Within this course, students will read The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom, Number the Stars by Lois Lowry, and the Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
Parents can choose to have this course be a core class (3-4 hours of homework per week) or as an elective (0-1 hours of homework per week). Both groups will have the same in-class experience but you can choose how much outside work you want your student to have.
*We will have a short period of time at the end of each class period for journaling to help transition back to normal activities.

Students must be able to process challenging topics such as brutality, death, and the sinful depravity of humankind though we will not focus solely on these.
