Does your middle or high school student love to read? Love fantasy? CS Lewis is a fabulous writer who weaves together tales filled with friendship, adventure, battles, and biblical themes. Over the course of a year, we will read all 7 books in the series. All of the reading will be done outside of class. Our class sessions will include exploring the realm of literature, learning about the author, comparing Narnia to other classic stories, and discovering the biblical "treasure" within the story. In addition to reading the story, students will be writing essays, journaling, giving presentations, and creating projects. Students will need to purchase or obtain all 7 books from the Chronicles of Narnia series.

Parents are required to attend the mandatory CORE Classes Parent Meeting immediately following Family Orientation on............. This year-long course covers foundational knowledge in both subject areas. The first semester will focus on civics - basic structure of government, the rights and responsibilities of a citizen, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and law and justice. The second semester will focus on economics - scarcity and trade, how people respond to scarcity, government involvement, and the history of economics. A student workbook will be provided to the student.
In this hands-on class students will learn the basics of working with clay to construct functional pieces for their own homes and spaces, such as nature bowls and Japanese teacups, tiles and vases. As students carve, smooth and sculpt, they will be given fresh ideas on design and decoration, receiving both guidance and creative freedom. Students will glaze and take home their finished pieces when fired. Over the course of our 16 weeks together this class becomes one of the anchors in the week, a pause in the day to tap into the creative and the tactile. Students will have some cleanup chores, like washing the wooden tools and sponges in the provided water buckets and wiping down their areas after glazing days. Junior artists are bound to find great satisfaction in this class, bringing clay to life with design and patterns, weaving the art of drawing into the clay.
Requirements:
• Supply & teacher payments are due January 9th. Families must respond to Groupzu invoices by this deadline to keep their standing in the class.

This is a hands-on class in which students have plenty of freedom to explore the wonderful medium of clay! Come with your littles each week for special parent-child time and socialization with other parents around the clay table. 5-6 year olds can be dropped off for this class, 3-4 year olds need a parent to attend with them. Some projects for the littles will include heart and handprint bows, pencil pots and thumbprint ornaments and, inevitably, many sweet little sculptural pieces of their own. You will also have the opportunity to create a handprint tile for a wall or keepsake box. In this class parents get to make little things, too, and everyone will decorate, glaze and take home their finished work once fired. Students have some minimal cleanup chores, like washing their wooden tools in the provided water buckets, wiping down their areas after glazing days and pushing in their chairs at the end of classes. Tactile contact is one of the first experiences we have in this life; it is at our roots. So this weekly gathering with clay, water and shells is a very grounding experience for students.

Young artists and their grown-up will explore clay through stories, sensory play, and simple hands-on projects. Some class days focus on making, squishing, stamping, and freely exploring clay, while other days include short guided projects completed together with a parent's help. This gentle introduction to clay encourages creativity, fine motor skills, imagination, and shared memories.
