Description:
Learn and build on the basic principles of hand-building with clay. Projects may include: functional pots, sculpture, tiles and more. The projects will encourage freedom of expression, allowing students to personalize their piece while also nurturing the need to follow a process and value the structure inspired by successful ceramic projects. Functional pieces such as cups, plates and bowls will all be made from dishwasher and microwave safe materials, creating heirloom memories your family may enjoy for generations.

We will engage your student’s imagination through read aloud stories and coordinating projects. Alternating between guided projects and ‘free play” clay. Students will be guided through the basics of clay sculpture, pinch pots, coil making, slip and score and more. This tactile medium will be used to help cultivate fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, attention to detail and storytelling. *Three and Four-year-old students need to be accompanied by a parent or sibling age 12 and up, Five year old’s may be dropped off. The class will touch on sculptural and functional wares over the course of our 16 weeks together.
Requirements:
Students ages 4 and under must be accompanied by someone age 12 and up. Supervising attendees may choose to pay the supply fee too if they want to make projects alongside their student.

Students will be guided through the basics of clay sculpture, pinch pots, coil making and more. This tactile medium will be used to help cultivate fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, attention to detail and storytelling. Artwork will range from a small guided projects completed in one day and projects that may take two or more sessions to complete. The class will touch on sculptural and functional wares over the course of our 16 weeks together.

Studio Art will offer hands-on experience with drawing, painting, printmaking, and various other fun media and techniques. Classes will include demonstrations, art history connections, studio time, and will always include references to the Seven Elements of Art (Line, Space, Shape, Texture, Value, Form, and Color).
