The text used is easily read and comprehended. It teaches the clear-cut, decisive principles of sound politics and economics enunciated by the Founders. Part I presents the Founder's foundational beliefs about how people should be governed with some historical background. Part II consists of 28 Principles that must be understood and lived. I believe through a minimum of reading, reflecting, and discussing the 28 Principles, you will find yourself incorporating them into your life--as the Founders hoped--because they are duties and responsibilities as much as they are rights and privileges. John Adams commented that the Constitution will only provide a stable, prosperous, and nurturing society if it is practiced by a people who believe in God. Hopefully, our discussion will explore that. Reading and discussion are the core of the class. Be prepared to engage in discussion. Class is appropriate for sixth grade through high school.

Description:
Argumentative Writing
Students will work to improve their argumentative writing by flexing their critical thinking muscles. We will begin the semester by analyzing written work and developing a baseline for what good argument writing looks like. We will read and discuss scenarios that involve the need for solid argument and text based evidence to persuade an audience, developing a foundation for writing our own arguments. Students will then work together to solve a real world issue. In a proposal argument, students will describe a significant problem and a reasonable solution, applying all of the skills developed in the first semester. We will also improve our critical thinking through reading, writing, and discussion, and will attend to basic research skills, including MLA documentation. Additionally, we will practice the writing traits of word choice, sentence structure, ideas and organization. Lessons for the first semester will come from Argumentative Writing and Critical Thinking 6-12. We will also explore arguments in other texts—in popular culture, advertisements, and websites. This will include the reading of To Kill a Mockingbird, and stories by Edgar Allen Poe. Students need to have access to a laptop or tablet that they can bring to class and use at home for research and word processing.
Requirements:
If you are in 7th grade, you must have taken my Middle School English class as a prerequisite. Bring a laptop or tablet, paper, pencils, highlighters, binder or other organizational system.
This class will give your kids the chance to explore their own art making techniques using many different types of art supplies. They will also have the opportunity to explore many different sensory mediums. This class will encourage children to engage with materials using all of their senses, promoting exploration and discovery. Process art is about the process of creating, not about the product that comes from the creating. When young children are given the opportunity to discover, explore and make mistakes, unique and creative artwork will flow. They learn to think creatively when allowed the freedom to express themselves through art. Process art also strengthens fine motor skills, cognitive thinking, and spatial intelligence. It is also a lot of fun!
