This is a CORE class that meets twice a week for the full year. CORE classes have greater expectations of students, parents, and teachers. Parents are required to attend the mandatory CORE Classes Parent Meeting immediately following Family Orientation on either August 26th at 6:45pm or August 28th at 2:45pm. In this class we will study the scientific method, earth science, chemistry, physics, and biology, in order to give students an overview and prepare them for upper level science courses. Students will learn how to take good notes, write a lab report, use a scientific calculator, and will use the scientific method during a minimum of 8 labs. We will have a few field trips where attendance is optional, but highly encouraged.
Requirements:
Students must purchase Apologia General Science 3rd Edition Textbook (It has to be the 3rd edition) and can be found cheaper on: www.christianbook.com. A TI-36X Pro calculator must is also required (It must be this specific calculator).

In this class we will study the different fields of science, perform experiments, and prepare for upper level science courses. This serves as an introduction to the sciences. Students will learn how to take good notes, write a lab report, use a scientific calculator, complete projects, and will use the scientific method during a minimum of 8 labs. I offer 2 tracks for this course - middle school and high school. A student workbook will be provided to the student.

Genius Hour was first invented by Google where employees were allowed to use 20% of their time (Fridays) to work on their own ideas for projects. GMail, Google News, and many other profitable ideas came out of this initiative.
GeniusHour-Visual Art Special Projects at FPHRC will be an exploration time for students to imagine, create, and share visual art projects. So it will NOT be a classic Genius Hour in that we will limit the projects to visual art, graphics, etc.
Some examples:
- Produce a children's book on a parable in the Gospels
- Paint a large composition illustrating home schooling for a hallway at FPHRC
- Produce a sculpture of the Apostle Paul preaching at Athens
Guidelines and rules for projects provide safety, moral, and legal guidelines. Here is the basic process:
1. Students will propose a project for approval by parents, the instructor, and the administration
2. Students will plan how to create and share their project
3. Students will produce their project for approval
4. Parents and Students will evaluate and decide the next steps

Students will be able to use the computer lab for two hours during class time and by appointment with Mr. Snyder. The computer lab has Wacom screen tablets, Adobe Premier Rush, Gimp, Blender, Audacity, and several other software programs useful to produce projects.

Mr. Snyder has accumulated lots of art related supplies. If Mr. Snyder does not have the supplies needed, then parents and students will have to provide them.

Join us as we learn about world geography. We will learn about cartography, navigation, the locations of states, countries, cities, mountain ranges, bodies of water, time zones, seasons, etc. through competitive games and various projects.
This is a full-year class. There will be about an hour of homework each school day for this class. Instructor will administer and correct tests and keep grade records. We will be using Seterra.com and Google Maps extensively.

This is a year long class and in this class we will be learning all about the 50 states. We will learn their shape, where they are each located on a map, their state capitals, state flower, and so much more! At the end of the semester we will have a test to see how many states the kids can point to on a map.

This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of Geometry and its underlying concepts using the Math-U-See system. The curriculum will include both theory and application. This course will be appropriate for anyone who has successfully completed Algebra 1, and has a solid grasp of fractions, factors and multiples, radicals, negative numbers, and exponents. NOTE: Dr. Conway is scheduled to miss eight classes during the fall semester (September 21, 23, October 21, 26, 28 and November 2, 16, 18). Classes will be taught by an arranged substitute.

This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of Geometry and its underlying concepts using the Math-U-See system. The curriculum will include both theory and application. This course will be appropriate for anyone who has successfully completed Algebra 1, and has a solid grasp of fractions, factors and multiples, radicals, negative numbers, and exponents. Students taking the Geometry course will learn the following skills: lines, planes, and angles; triangles, rectangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids; circles, spheres, and ellipses; pyramids, cones, and cylinders; triangle proofs and trigonometry.
Requirements:
*Required book and materials: Math-U-See Geometry Student Pack, TI-36X Pro calculator ($20), a pad of graph paper, pencil(s) with eraser, a straightedge or ruler, and a protractor are required.
