I look forward to helping you get your student ready for the math adventure that awaits them! Normally each student would have the Primer Math U See book and test booklet (The Red ones). But since I’m trying something new and starting half way through the year. I decided I’m going to make copies from the workbook and put together weekly packets instead. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Knots and Lashing Ages 13yrs-18yrs Ringnalda, Andrew Fall 2023 Science
- Agriculture
Schedule: Tuesday - Science Lab - 127: 12:00 pm - 12:50 pm
Description:Rope-making, knots, and lashing are among mankind’s oldest technologies. We will be learning basic and advanced knots, how knots work (and how they fail), and application. What knot is best used in a specific situation? What knots should be avoided in situations where failure can mean your life? Lashing involves using rope and knots to assemble structures. We will start with simple structures like tripods and move to bridges and trebuchets and such later in the semester as time and student skill warrant. We will be using a variety of resources (mainly animatedknots.com and The Ashley Book of Knots) for this class which will be listed in the class syllabus. Students will be using sharp knives and marlinspikes. The only homework will be practicing the learned knots as applicable in a home/farm setting. We should be able to thoroughly cover the basics, practice repeatedly, and learn multiple applications for knots. Time permitting, we may also look at various ways to lace and tie shoes, tie ties, and possibly make some rope with simple rope-making techniques. For the spring term, there will be a continuing Knots and Lashing class to further learn about knots.
