Description:PREREQUISITE - This class will be taken after Ballet 2A or 1B is completed successfully and teacher agrees student is ready to move forward, or by audition.   Barre Skills – All basic barre positions and steps but adding in port a bras and by the end of the year – releves.    Center Floor - Chasse, pique, single pirouette working towards double in fifth, arabesque, chasse sote, glissade, echappe, balance, assamble, changment, chasse tour jete, begin learning pique turns, and Pas de bouree ́. Ballet attire is required to attend class (pink tights, leotard, and ballet slippers) as well as hair pulled back in a bun.This is a year long class and students will be asked to commit to attending for the entire year. During our fall semester dancers will be practicing technique, form, posture and steps in combination. The students will get to exhibit their learned skills at a Winter Showcase (December 6th/7th). During the spring semester dancers will have the opportunity to learn a dance to share at our Spring Show. The Spring Show is scheduled for the weekend of May 20th and 21st at 6:00 PM, with more specifics coming at the mandatory parent meeting in the fall. Students taking multiple classes (or siblings) receive 25% off their second class taken with the same instructor. Fees may be paid monthly or by semester. Costume fees for the Spring Show are due at Spring Registration. (Estimated $25 to rent.) Students are encouraged to stretch and practice what they learn in class at home a few minutes each day.

Choreography Project Class Ages 10yrs-18yrs Kehler, Alexa Spring 2022 Dance

Schedule: Thursday - Dance Studio A - 116: 2:00 pm - 2:50 pm
Description:Come join this amazing group of young choreographers as they put together a beautiful piece for the Spring Dance Show. Dancers who want to register to be a part of this class must have completed at least 2 years of ballet or lyrical class. The dance will mix ballet technique with lyrical and contemporary styles. Students in this class will be performing in our wonderful Spring Dance Show that is focused on the life of Christ. This class will be performing in the Spring Dance Shows the week of May 16-22, final dates TBD. Details will be provided in full at our mandatory parent meeting to be held at 7pm on Monday, February 28th. (We are adjusting some things that should enable students to invite more family and friends to enjoy the event. We are considering all young student and level one classes to be split among the performances, but also to offer more performances that will allow better viewing opportunities and parking.) Parental attendance to this meeting is mandatory in order to ensure clarity of information and the success of your dancer’s performance. Please read the updated class syllabus that is pinned to your class channel. Students taking multiple classes (or siblings) receive 25% off their second class taken with the same instructor. Choreography 101/102 Ages 11yrs-18yrs Kehler, Alexa Fall 2022 Dance

Schedule: Thursday - Dance Studio A - 116: 2:00 pm - 2:50 pm
Description:Choreography 101 students: This class is for dancers, dance assistants, and dance interns who wants to learn how to take a dance performance idea or theme and turn it into reality. In this class we will discuss song/music style and choice, dance styles, how to plan out group forms and contrasting movements, how to write your choreography down so you can remember it, using props or no props, costume and lighting choice, etc.… Students will have a Christmas theme and develop a small group dance project throughout the first half of the semester. During the second half of the semester, they will be coached on how to instruct their classmates in order to perform their piece in our Christmas Show. Students may continue to satisfy their creative bent by taking Choreography 101 a second semester. During this second semester students will work on a solo/group dance as well as choreograph a project for a large dance group/class that will perform their piece in the Spring Show. Our Level 102 Students will build on their previous experience as they learn about more aspects of choreography as well as some dance history and famous choreographers in various styles of dancing. Students will be challenged to create and teach a dance to one of our lower level lyrical classes. *Students who sign up for this class at level 102 must also sign up to assist in either the Lyrical 2 Youth or Lyrical 1 & 2 Teen class. Bring a notebook and a pencil or pen and access to music for your project. (Students may use their cell phone or device in class for their music. Ear buds will be helpful.) Wear dance attire and ballet, jazz or lyrical shoes. Previous dance experience is required. Student must have taken a minimum of one year of a level three class or get the teacher’s approval. Homework: Students will be expected to follow the course syllabus and complete each weekly activity in order to be able to produce their projects at the end of the semester.
Requirements:101 requires at least one year of a level 3 class or by audition; 102 requires level 101 or by audition. Parents are required to view and sign the dance department syllabus available at: https://fphrc.groupzu.com/page/view/dance and attend a Mandatory Parent Meeting on September 19th at 7pm. The Christmas Dance show will require minimal parent involvement. Christmas Dance Show Dress Rehearsal: 12/8; Christmas Dance Show Performances: 12/9 @6pm, 12/10 @1:30pm, and 12/10 @6:30pm (Child and Youth level dance classes will each be performing in only one show). The Spring Dance show will require significant parent involvement. Spring Dance Show Dress Rehearsal and Performances will be the week of 5/16-5/20. Costume rental fees are included in the term admin fees.

One of my greatest desires when I was teaching preschool and now as a homeschool mom is that as my children and I learn together our hearts will be full of more and more wonder. My hope is that in this learning playgroup children aren't even aware they are "learning" and are most aware of how much fun they are having. We will sing, dance, read stories, explore topics of their interest, play, play, and play. There will be a structure that consists of time spent at circle time, creation time, free play time, snack time, and story time. I will incorporate literacy, math, aspects of God's character and how He relates to them, social-emotional skills, and all while having fun and playing.

Description:Preschool Learning Playgroup's learning focus is to build on social-emotional skills, solving social problems, while tying in academic learning through their interest's and play. During Share Time, children get to bring something from home and share about it with their friends. It's is a fun way to practice language skills and learning how to take turns, trade, or share. Graphic Design, Photography, and Yearbook (Fall)

Description:The main objective of this course is to teach multimedia communication through learning basic graphics design elements, basic photography and photojournalism concepts, and to develop some journalism and communication skills by building a Firmly Planted 2022/23 yearbook. We will begin the fall semester by learning and developing basic design skills, including layout, graphic design, and digital art. We will learn the basics of portrait photography, studio portraits and photojournalism. We will develop journalistic skills, including writing, interviewing, and gathering information. This is a year long class and our goal for the fall semester will be to produce all the photography and the production program for the Theater class. The spring semester, we will continue our study of graphics design, photography and journalistic skills with the goal of producing a center yearbook that reflects the experiences of this school year and is an accurate representation of the center. This class encourages student independence, motivation, and responsibility, especially in regards to producing the yearbook.
Requirements:Students of all ability and experience levels are welcome. Homework: 2+ hours each week. Requirements: Digital camera and a memory card. The digital camera can be a point and shoot although preference would be a DSLR camera. Students will need access to a computer for homework and the ability to download some free software apps. In order to produce the portraits, theater programs and yearbook, students will be asked to attend events and activities outside of the class times. These are meant to be learning activities in which the student will get real world experience in the design, photography and journalism fields.

Description:This is a just-for-fun, assorted craft class. Students will learn to create and craft everything from butter slime to bird houses. These will be crafts they will be able to enjoy creating and using, as well as giving as gifts or even selling at craft fairs! Some of the crafts have been chosen for their seasonal uses. Here is a quick list of what we will be creating: Galaxy jars, sock puppets, picture clip frames, string art, hanging yarn lanterns, sock snowmen, and more as time allows.
