| Description: | The main objective of this course is to teach multimedia communication through learning basic graphics design elements, basic photography and photojournalism concepts, and to develop some journalism and communication skills by building a Firmly Planted 2022/23 yearbook. We will begin the fall semester by learning and developing basic design skills, including layout, graphic design, and digital art. We will learn the basics of portrait photography, studio portraits and photojournalism. We will develop journalistic skills, including writing, interviewing, and gathering information.
This is a year long class and our goal for the fall semester will be to produce all the photography and the production program for the Theater class. The spring semester, we will continue our study of graphics design, photography and journalistic skills with the goal of producing a center yearbook that reflects the experiences of this school year and is an accurate representation of the center. This class encourages student independence, motivation, and responsibility, especially in regards to producing the yearbook. |
| Requirements: | Students of all ability and experience levels are welcome. Homework: 2+ hours each week. Requirements: Digital camera and a memory card. The digital camera can be a point and shoot although preference would be a DSLR camera. Students will need access to a computer for homework and the ability to download some free software apps. In order to produce the portraits, theater programs and yearbook, students will be asked to attend events and activities outside of the class times. These are meant to be learning activities in which the student will get real world experience in the design, photography and journalism fields. |
