Description:This is a CORE class that meets twice a week for the full year. CORE classes have greater expectations of students, parents, and teachers. Parents are required to attend the mandatory CORE Classes Parent Meeting immediately following Family Orientation on either August 26th at 6:45pm or August 28th at 2:45pm. This Core History class will focus on United States history and culture during the 1900’s. The class will cover important events including but not limited to World War I, The Great Depression, World War II, the Cold War, and the Watergate Scandal through the watching of popular film and novels. Each month the class will examine roughly one decade of the 20th century. No single textbook will be implemented, but students will examine important historical documents in class on a regular basis. Though the teacher may make a wide range of viewing and reading suggestions, parents will be asked to monitor all choices for appropriateness and family approval.

Description:3D Printing is a fun way to use your creativity and learn some drafting skills at the same time. In this class we will learn how to design basic models, slice, and print them. Our model difficulty will increase as the semester progresses. CAD drafting is a great skill that opens up many job opportunities such as: CAD Drafter, CNC Machinist, and Engineering Technician. Join in on the fun and learning with us this Fall!
Requirements:Students should be familiar with a computer and know the basics of how to use one. This should not be the student's first time using computers.

Description:This is a CORE class that meets twice a week for the full year. CORE classes have greater expectations of students, parents, and teachers. Algebra 1 course covers: positive and negative numbers, variables, graphs (lines, circles, ellipses, parabolas, hyperbolas), absolute value, metric conversions, negative and fractional exponents, square roots, factoring polynomials, and more. It is very important that the student has a good understanding of: fractions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), multiplication and division of decimals and solving for an unknown.
Requirements:Math U See Algebra 1 Student Pack ( this includes their workbook and test book). Students will watch a required video before coming to class each Monday. Parents are required to sign their students workbook and test book each week.

Description:This is a CORE class that meets twice a week for the full year. CORE classes have greater expectations of students, parents, and teachers. Parents are required to attend the mandatory CORE Classes Parent Meeting immediately following Family Orientation on either August 26th at 6:45pm or August 28th at 2:45pm. This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of Algebra 2 and its underlying concepts using the Math-U-See system. The curriculum will include both theory and application. This course will be appropriate for anyone who has successfully completed Algebra 1, and has a solid grasp of fractions, factors and multiples, radicals, negative numbers, and exponents. Students taking the Algebra 2 course will learn the following skills: advanced exponents; rational expressions and factoring; polynomials and quadratics; linear equations and graphs; basic conic sections and systems of equations.
Requirements:Prerequisites: Algebra 1 (Geometry is recommended) Students must have the Math-U-See Student Pack for Algebra 2 and a TI-36X Pro calculator ($20). In addition, a pad of graph paper, pencil(s) with eraser, a straightedge or ruler, and a protractor, are required.

Description:Is spelling a mystery to you? Have no fear, this course demystifies the English language by using the time-tested Spell to Write and Read method. Students will learn to decode the English language by introducing phonics-based spelling rules which form the foundation of the English language. Did you know that approximately 84% of English words are mostly predictable, using sound-symbol correspondences and spelling patterns? This course integrates spelling, writing, and reading, all critical skills to master before advancing to writing paragraphs. Alphabet Architects incorporates four of the five senses, making it well suited for visual, auditory, vocal, and tactile learners. Games are integrated throughout to keep students interested and engaged. Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: • Hear, say and write 70 basic phonograms that comprise the English language • Apply 28 spelling rules that govern the use of phonograms in the English language • Hear, say, write and read the 400 of 1000 most frequently used words in the English language (25 each week), analyzing each word to identify applicable spelling rules • Produce a learning log of word lists, sentences, spelling rules and grammar basics • Write original, complete, correctly spelled sentences Evaluation Methods: (Instructor will give detailed feedback on elements below): • In-class activities and participation • Completion of Black Learning Log, which will become a reference source for future learning • Pre- and post-evaluations to measure growth Grades: A (Advance) D (Do over)

Description:This is a CORE class that meets twice a week for the full year. CORE classes have greater expectations of students, parents, and teachers. Parents are required to attend the mandatory CORE Classes Parent Meeting immediately following Family Orientation on either August 26th at 6:45pm or August 28th at 2:45pm. High school students who have completed basic biology and have any interest at all in any type of health-care career (any and all aspects of medicine, dentistry, nursing, physical therapy, EMT/paramedic, medical tech, medical or dental assisting, PA, NP, midwifery, naturopathy, acupuncture, dental hygiene, etc.) will be ahead of the game by joining us for Anatomy & Physiology. We will use Apologia’s Advanced Biology for our text. Students will also need an anatomy coloring book (they use these in universities and medical schools). We will be using the Anatomy Coloring Book, 4th edition, by Wynn Kapit. Students will also need a set of quality colored pencils. Class time will be spent reviewing anatomy and systems and performing various physiology labs. We will also perform a more extensive dissection of the fetal pig than we did in General Biology, as well as dissections of the cow eye, sheep brain, and sheep heart. More information will be sent regarding texts and materials after registration. This is a full-year science class. Instructor will administer and correct tests and keep grade records.
Requirements:Students should have taken General biology before registering for this course. Students must purchase Apologia’s Advanced Biology book, the Anatomy Coloring Book 4th edition by Wynn Kapit, and a set of quality colored pencils.

Description:This is a CORE class that meets twice a week for the full year. CORE classes have greater expectations of students, parents, and teachers. Parents are required to attend the mandatory CORE Classes Parent Meeting immediately following Family Orientation on either August 26th at 6:45pm or August 28th at 2:45pm. Apologia Biology is intended for high-school students who need to begin earning lab science credits. We will be using Apologia's Biology, 3rd Edition text. Students should be prepared to spend at least an hour each day studying the material. The course is divided into an overview/review session on Mondays and the accompanying lab on Wednesdays. The teacher's fee covers both the overview/review and the lab. The overview sessions will cover concepts that students often have difficulty understanding, whereas the review sessions will cover the material in the study guides to help students prepare for the module tests. Two weeks are allotted for each module, plus we will have extra time to do several dissections not included in the text, culminating with a fetal pig dissection in the spring term. Students are expected to keep up with the readings and come to class prepared for the day's activities. This is a full-year course intended to help satisfy a student’s high school lab science credit requirements. Instructor will administer and correct tests and keep grade records. Description:This is a CORE class that meets twice a week for the full year. CORE classes have greater expectations of students, parents, and teachers. Physical Science is intended for late middle- to early high-school aged students who are beginning a formal study of the sciences which require lab work. Physical Science covers general concepts in chemistry, physics, astronomy, geology, and meteorology. We will be using Apologia Physical Science, 4th edition. Students should expect to spend about an hour each day working through the textbook material. This class is comprised of a review session each week to help students with more difficult concepts from the book, and a weekly lab component. Two weeks are allotted for each module. Students will also learn how to write formal lab reports. This is a full-year science class. Instructor will administer and correct tests and keep grade records.
