| Description: | This beginning writing course is for students who are ready to learn how to compose fact and fiction pieces. It covers organizing and note taking to build a formal paragraph. By the end of the year students will be writing reports and stories. Grammar will be taught in context with stories. Students will learn the mechanics of writing as well. There will be required homework each week. I homeschooled 8 children as well as pursued additional teacher training. I love to see kids make progress in academics and so I present the class in a fun & engaging manner. Each child will be able to progress from their own, individual ability to higher levels. We will cover what God has to say about writing and character traits and how we should use our best efforts at improving communication skills. |
| Requirements: | Students taking this class are expected to be already reading and able to write a sentence. Students should also be able to understand and follow directions to participate in classroom activities, such as reading aloud, speaking when requested during the class, respectful listening, and participating in simple in-class writing. All core classes require the family to commit to completing homework. Homework will consist of writing one paragraph per week plus occasional additional, short pieces. Students will need to bring a 3-ring binder to class for handouts and resources. Also required are pens in black, blue, and red ink. |
