| Description: | Is grammar gruesome in your grange? This course is tailored to the student who wants a firm foundation in forming sentences before advancing to English composition. Students, grades 5-6-7 will develop an understanding of written language by working with sentences and learning: 1) eight parts of speech (noun, pronoun, verb, adverb, adjective, conjunction, interjection, preposition) , 2) five parts of a sentence (subject, verb, capital letter, end mark, completeness), 3) four purposes of sentences (declarative, exclamatory, interrogative, imperative), 4) and four structures of sentences (simple, compound, complex, compound-complex). Students will learn to diagram sentences by identifying basic patterns found in each structure. Students will also learn the essentials of punctuation and capitalization, preparing them to write and edit longer compositions. |
