| Description: | This is a basic course in photography designed to focus on understanding the basic operations and functions of a digital camera. Various camera settings will be learned to offer greater creative and technical control. Digital processing techniques are introduced using Affinity Photo software. Students will explore compositional principles including aperture, shutter speed, ISO settings, design and lighting. They will explore the history of photography, learning about its scientific and technological developments and important innovators in the field. Students will also learn and practice art criticism. This class encourages student independence, motivation, and responsibility. Students of all ability and experience levels are welcome. Homework: 3+ hours each week.
Requirements: Digital camera and a memory card. The digital camera can be a point and shoot although preference would be a camera with with the ability for aperture (A or Av) or manual (M) settings. No cellphone cameras, please. A laptop/mouse will also need to be brought to class for editing and uploading pictures (windows or macs). Affinity Photo will need to be downloaded onto laptop at home with guidance from a parent/guardian. (Affinity Photo would be a separate 55$ fee from supply fees). Binder and pen/pencil will need to be brought to every class. Teacher will provide supplemental packets which include readings, worksheets, assignments and Affinity Photo instructions.
