We will be learning how to participate in an effective worship team environment. Our goal is to prepare the student to be a successful worshipper and part of a worship team.
Applicants must be proficient at their instrument. The class is not “how to play” but rather, learning to play as a group to lead worship.

Some of the topics we will cover are:
1. Personal and spiritual development.
2. Musicianship with a band.
3. Theological and spiritual aspects of worship.
4. Leadership principles.
5. Basic sound and computer tech processes to support worship.
6. And many more….
The class will develop teams that may lead chapel or other events that need a worship team at FPHRC. We will also encourage each participant to be involved in their church’s worship program.
We will be working on popular worship songs together in class. As applicable, students need to bring their own instruments to class. We will have a sound system to plug into.
Requirements:
Proficient on a worship team instrument (Able to read a chord chart).
As part of the Worship Choir, students will learn what worship is through various short devotions. Students will learn various worship songs arranged for choirs and learn to sing in 2 and 3 part harmonies. There will be a spring concert on May 25th that will showcase all they've worked on (required participation). This choir is audition only (will notify you of audition times).
Important: This class will start February 7th and will have a dress rehearsal May 22nd!

I've taught private piano lessons for 25 years and worked as a music teacher at Cornerstone Christian School. I have experience in teaching multiple choirs and small ensembles over the years in the community and various churches and have sung on worship teams and led worship at several churches. I'm excited to share my love of music with your kiddos! As part of the Worship Choir, students will learn what worship is through various short devotions. Hello! My name is Jennifer Faulkner. I welcome this wonderful opportunity to help raise up a new generation of musicians and worshippers at Firmly Planted! I love teaching and do so with creativity, kindness, and FUN! My students and I laugh often at lessons while taking learning seriously!
Details: Lesson length is 30 for $110 per month; 45 minutes long $150 per month. Voice lessons use a mixed-voice approach (as opposed to a strictly classical approach). The following will be covered: vocal care and anatomy, breathwork, voice placement in the mask (face), ear and pitch training, along with theory and sight reading. Students will apply weekly vocal exercises to pieces they are working on.
BIO: I offer a lifetime of music education, performance, worship leading, and private teaching experience. Armed with a BA in Music from Simpson College (now Simpson University), I've taught private lessons for over 32 years, homeschooled my children, taught at a Christian preschool, and have worked in the public education system as a Paraprofessional in Special Ed and Kindergarten . I am a licensed KiddyKeys Preschool Music program teacher and have taught at various Camas/Vancouver preschools. One of my most challenging and rewarding music teaching experiences was creating and implementing a school wide music education and choral program for a private Christian School.

1. Ages: Starting at 6 for beginning voice 2. Commit to weekly attendance of lessons through May 2025 3. Agree and sign the lesson policy agreement. 4. Must have 3-ring binder with inside pocket, lined paper, and dividers for additional handouts, pencil with eraser and highlighter. 5. Must have access to a computer, phone, or CD player to for practice, along with a private place to work on vocal skills and songs. 6. Parental or sibling help and support. 7. Willingness to perform at end of year recital (or other pre-arranged option). 8. Ability to purchase curriculum as recommended by teacher.

Book 2 Students are asked to register for 45 minuet lessons, and Book 4 and up should be enrolled in 1 hour lessons. Daily practice duration should be equivalent to the lesson length for each level.

•Daily practice with your child is essential for success. Please find a consistent daily time that works for your family.
•Please plan to arrive to your lesson five minutes early, and get the instrument ready while the previous student is finishing up their lesson.
•Please bring a notebook to the private lesson.
•Daily listening to the Suzuki recording of the student’s current book is expected. This one is easy—all you have to do is hit play! Passive listening (while eating, playing etc) is absolutely fine. Please decide on a regular time to do this.
•Weekly attendance of group lesson is required. If my group lesson times do not work for your family, I have other options for group lesson times that I can refer you to. More advanced students have the option of joining MYS, PYP or other youth orchestra.
•Participation in periodic recitals is expected. It is an opportunity for students to share and celebrate their progress in a supportive environment.

This is a year-long class! Get ready to learn some basic music notation, sight-reading, and singing a variety of warm-ups and songs! We will also learn about our singing voice as an instrument and how to use it properly to sing. There will be a spring choir concert May 25th for the families where students can perform the songs they learned (participation required).
