1000 Hours Outside is a curriculum dedicated to getting kids outside and active, while also using nature to get creative. In this class we will be doing projects from the 1000 Hours Outside activity book and learning about the plants and animals of the Pacific Northwest. The curriculum is about the time parents and their kids spend outside together when not in class. If you have a child that is younger, parents welcome to sit in and help with crafts. Spend as much time outside as humanly possible! Rain or shine, it’s all making memories and developing knowledge for your family. Students will need 1 “1000 Hours Outside” activity book and 1 foraging bag (You can buy these at 1000HoursOutside.com)

“It was only when I realized how actors have the power to move people that I decided to pirate acting as a career “ -Cate Blanchett.
Acting is moving and powerful…and hard. But it’s also one of the most incredible and fulfilling things I’ve ever done. In this class I’d love to nurture and develop your student’s love of acting and live theater helping them grow into greater actors by becoming better observers, critical thinkers, and more expressive and grounded individuals.
In this class we will work on scenes and monologues as well as preparing for a comedy night at the end of the term. We will cover acting basics in an engaging and wholesome environment where we work together to improve and encourage young actors to deepen and improve their craft at whatever level they are at currently.
Bring a desire to act, a good attitude, and a water bottle!
Homework: 30-60min daily
** Note to parents: if your student is aged 10-13, please contact the teacher by call or text at 360-953-2157 before registering.
This class is for those who want to know more about how art was formed in different countries through various artists. Each week, we will be doing a craft, drawing, or making a mixed media project centering around an artist, country, or both. For instance, we would do a colored pencil optical illusion print which started out in Greece. Or focus on a painting of Monet's water lilies while listening to popular music from that time period. Some pieces may take a few weeks while others will take just one week. We'll start out simple with a lesson in drawing and color before we move onto more complicated works of art. Some of the works to come include a still life, paper lanterns, a Thomas Kinkade inspired house, etc. This class will be very family friendly with what is shown and talked about. Homework will be a write up of what you learned about that artist and/or country to go with each project you finish that week. The supply fee will cover a sketchpad and quality colored pencils that they will get to keep as well as cardstock and other paints I will bring for students to use at their disposal.
This is a studio art class for students aged 11-14 who would love more time for projects. It is a year-long class (Fall & Spring Semesters). Some exposure to the Elements of Art would be helpful, but not required. Projects will include drawing with graphite, inks, soft pastels, oil pastels, acrylic painting on a variety of surfaces (i.e. paper, wood, canvas, etc), mixed media (such as watercolor and ink), and block printing.

"This will be an “open art lab” time for students in art classes to work on projects they’ve started in class and play with techniques they’re learning in addition to class times. We will be open to students coming every week or on an “as needed” basis (with parental approval) but registration for this class is required for either format. I will be available for tutoring or assistance during this time as well as making sure any approved materials are available from the teachers cabinets. Our heart in the art department is that students grow and play with art and learn to enjoy creating both in and out of class, and this is an opportunity to do that.
No prerequisites required to come and participate with students own materials. In order to use teacher materials students must be enrolled in an art class and have approved material usage with their teacher.
Students will bring their own materials or request permission from their teachers to use teacher materials during lab time. Students should bring their own notebook, sketch book, or paper to use and have a project in mind to work on during lab.
There will be no homework. "
