Early Education
Schedule:
Tuesday - Preschool A - 131: 10:00 am - 10:50 am
Description:
This is an early reading comprehension class that uses the art of storytelling as a tool to engage the learner. Children are ready for this class if they are identifying and writing letters, connecting their sounds, are ready to start blending letters to make words, and ready to learn word families. Children who are starting to read my first reading books and level 1 books are a good fit for this class. Every week we will practice a new word family and 1 - 2 new sight words through the art of storytelling. We will learn storytelling terms such as plot, setting, protagonist, antagonist, major & minor characters, and the parts of a story: beginning, middle, end. If you have a creative storyteller at home who is ready to move on from identifying letters and sounds into blending sounds, this might be a good fit! Feel free to message me on slack with any questions.

It's never too early to teach our kids what is "good and worthy of praise" (Philippians 4:8) Each week will gather together to learn about things that cultivate truth, beauty, and goodness in our lives. This term we will learn: 2 hymns, 2 folk songs, 2 Bible verse, and a poem as well as study 2 artists and 2 composers. We will cover the Baroque time period in art and the book of John from the Bible. Each class time we will read a section of the Bible and discuss, sing a hymn or folk song, look at one piece of art, listen to a composer or work memorizing on our poem. At the end of the term I hope to have a time of recitation where the students can share the songs, verses, and poem learned.
Requirements:
Students should be able to listen to music or short readings without interruption and be able to take turns within a discussion. I will be sending home the word for all songs, the poem, and Bible verse home for the kids to practice.
