Mashoonga is a fun, interactive sparring sport! Students will receive their own foam saber. Each week students will be paired up to spar one another in rounds. Points are awarded based on the number of legal "hits" and lack of game fouls. Beyond the fun of the game, we will be learning about sportsmanship through weekly character traits that students will be assigned to give brief reports on each class. If a student already has a foam saber from a prior Mashoonga class at FPHR, they are allowed to use it and the supply fee will be taken off your invoice.
Mashoonga offers more than just a fun sparring activity with foam sabers; it's a platform for students to cultivate honor, sportsmanship, and character. While the thrill of the game is undeniable, the core values of honesty, self-regulation, and integrity are emphasized throughout. Underneath the excitement of wielding foam sabers lies a structured game with clear rules and expectations of conduct. Through Mashoonga, students not only learn physical skills but also develop important life skills such as teamwork, respect for opponents, and resilience. It is essential to acknowledge the inherent risks associated with any contact sport. Safety measures and supervision are prioritized to minimize the possibility of injury while ensuring that students can fully immerse themselves in the experience.

Fight for honor! Fight for glory! Join our full-contact foam sword fighting class this fall as we work to reignite a championship team.
The purpose of this class is not bashing each other with foam swords, however. Well, actually, yeah, it is, for the most part, but we will spend a lot time exploring how Christians can compete honestly in line with Scripture and putting those principles into action. There will be some reading and homework, but mainly at the beginning of the session. Mostly, you’ll just be hitting each other with foam swords, which is really what you want to do, right?
Students will need to purchase a set of Mashoonga sabers and will be responsible for their maintenance. We will have intramural competitions at the end of each semester, and, possibly, a tournament in the spring against other homeschool co-ops fielding their own teams, depending on whether area co-ops continue to offer this class as well.
Students will need a set of Mashoonga foam swords; information on purchasing these will be sent out after registration
Homework: 1-2 hours/week, mainly for the first couple of weeks.
Presented from a Christian worldview, our class will focus on art appreciation and fun art projects. There will be read-aloud stories about each featured artist, visual examples of their work, and an art project inspired by that featured artist. This spring, we will be learning about Impressionism, Post Impressionism, and some 20th-century artists. This class features different artists and projects, and does not repeat material during the same school year. It can be taken throughout the entire school year, if desired, or by the semester.
Presented from a Christian worldview, this year-long class will focus on art appreciation. (Possible artists/movements of interest: Rembrandt van Rijn, Leonardo da Vinci, The Impressionists, Katsushika Hokusai, Charles Russell, Marc Chagall, Grandma Moses, and a few artists from both Modern and Contemporary Abstract movements.)
