In this class we will embark on the journey of learning the musical language. Starting with basic musical concepts, we then will explore numerous building blocks of music. Some of the things taught along the way will be note naming, identifying musical terms and symbols, practicing rhythm patterns, discovering how to construct major and minor scales, and so much more. Each week students will have pages to complete in their textbook and fun games to play at home to grow more comfortable with the new concepts introduced. I will provide the textbook and other materials needed for the class. I can’t wait to begin the musical journey and to have fun learning music!
This engaging, interactive, and explorative class seeks not only to teach the craft of music composition but to encourage participants to feel like real composers. Students will have the opportunity to explore the practice of composition by seeing music through a composer’s lens — learning more about what makes music music through its core elements: melody, harmony, rhythm, expression, instrumentation, structure, other essential elements of music, as well as writing with lyrics if desired. Participants will compose their own pieces and songs with colorful tools and artistry, share their work with other students, dive deep into the great compositions and songs of the past, and ultimately discover God's creative gift to mankind to imitate him — the ultimate Creator.
