Learn about the everyday heroes in our neighborhoods through play, art, and imagination! In “Here to Help”, your little one will explore the exciting world of community helpers, from brave firefighters to friendly mail carriers, caring doctors, and helpful garbage collectors. Through fun, hands-on activities like Fire & Flames process art, racing emergency vehicles, bandaging up dolls, and pretend play at the vet clinic, your child will build empathy, creativity, and early problem-solving skills. They’ll dive into themed sensory bins, match hats to helpers, brush pretend teeth, and discover how people in our community work together to keep us safe, healthy, and happy. Songs, games, and stories will spark curiosity and appreciation for the people children see every day. Whether your child wants to be a firefighter, dentist, or chef, “Here to Help!” is the perfect place to pretend, play, and learn about all the amazing jobs that make our world go round.
Requirements:
Children must be able to attend class without parent (special needs with a student helper is fine). Students need to use restroom before class, and have a parent available on Slack for bathroom breaks during class.
The artistic emphasis of this class is to help students learn how to create and sculpt a believable human form in any pose. Come to class with a pencil, 3 x 5 cards (provided) and homework completed. Students are expected to be prepared for class, respectful to all people, and give their best effort. Mr. Snyder will supply printed reference material, modeling clay, sculpture tools, drawing paper, 3 x 5 cards, and armature materials.

Requirements:
teacher will provide supplies; some are shared, and some are for the student to keep. Arrangements can be made for the student to keep their sculpture for the cost of the modeling clay. Students will be given paper for sketching. Parents, please make a habit of responding to Slack messages, either with a reply in thread or an emoji. Some Scholarship funds are available. Students may do landscape work for Mr. Snyder to earn additional modeling clay and supplies. *** Supply & teacher payments are due January 9th. Families must respond to Groupzu invoices by this deadline to keep their standing in the class.

In Concert Choir at FPHRC, students will have the opportunity to make engaging, quality and beautiful music with others, to take the next steps in their music education, build lasting relationships, and most importantly honor God in each of these. Ensemble music-making is integral to the musical education of every musician whether experienced, or a beginner. They will develop collaborative skills that solo performance does not offer, gain a greater sense of musical artistry through the internalization of music by movement, and gain exposure to different genres and styles of music. Concert Choir carries on the American choral tradition of singing traditional choral literature, along with new literature being written in view of that tradition as well as the worship and church choir tradition.
It is also my calling to help students develop a more robust faith in Jesus by understanding their talents can help spread the gospel, and that serving one another both to brings glory to God and helps us make better music. Choir is the perfect place to instill these values.
Requirements:
This is a year-long course and full-year commitment is expected so that we are able to build on the skills we learn through the course of the year. Also expected this that students are able to participate in both the Spring and Fall dress rehearsals and concerts. Please make sure you are available to attend the dress rehearsal and concert dates before signing up for both semesters:
The Fall dress rehearsal will be on Tuesday Dec. 16, (in the evening, time TBD), and the Fall concert will be on Wednesday, Dec. 17 (in the evening, time TBD). For Spring semester the dress rehearsal will be on Tuesday, May 19, and the concert will be on Wednesday, May 20, (both in the evening, times TBD).
Audition and range-check policy: All new students must audition. Returning students do not need to audition but may be asked to schedule a range-check. Returning students aged 14 are required to schedule a range-check either before the first day of choir or within the first two weeks. In the Firmly Planted High School Choir, students will have the opportunity not only to make beautiful, quality, and memorable music together, but take the next (or first) steps in their musical experience, build lasting relationships, and honor God through both song and the act of using their talents. You do not need any prior musical experience to join!
Choir is also integral to the music education of any student who also plays an instrument such as piano, violin, or guitar, or likes to write music. They will develop collaborative skills that the solo performance world does not offer, gain musical artistry through the internalization of music by movement, as well as gain exposure to different genres and styles of music. This ensemble will carry on a Firmly Planted tradition of learning about God and his son, our Great Savoir, Jesus Christ, through short devotionals, particularly God as a creator, using our talents to serve him, worship, and serving one another.
I graduated with a B.A. in music from Western Washington University, focusing on music education and piano. I took especially to choir — studying graduate-level choral conducting and literature with Leslie Guelker-Cone, a noted choir director throughout Washington State. I directed the First Baptist Church of Bellingham Sanctuary Choir for four years following graduation and have guest-conducted and workshopped various groups of different levels including high school, middle school, elementary, and adult ensembles. Highlights include the Bellingham Chamber Chorale, and in 2013, the Interfaith Coalition massed choir — a combined ensemble of over 150 singers. I started a Masters in Music at Indiana University in 2017.

The inspiration behind this learning cohort concept is the creation of a better education model for home school students. Rather than borrow exclusively from the traditional public and private school models, this small group of students and their families would work together to create a program designed specifically for their high school aged students, that not only meets, but surpasses the standards of American public schools and provides a fuller, richer “education” aligned with the desires and beliefs of the families involved. Families will share ideas and responsibilities, while tailoring plans to individual students and instilling the understanding that the responsibility for becoming educated lies with each individual.
The families would work together toward the following goals (not an exhaustive list):
• Develop lifetime plan for personal education
• Create record/transcript of classes, learning, etc.
• Fulfill all requirements for standardized testing
• Plan and execute steps to prepare for and apply to college (if desired)
• Help students find mentors in important life area i.e. academic, professional, spiritual, etc.
• Provide academic support where needed
• Investigate various personal inventories (Enneagram, Myers-Briggs, ASVAB) to help students their God-given gifts, skills and interests.
