Wednesday - Ceramics Studio - 004: 11:00 am - 12:50 pm
Description:
Creating with their own two hands using water and clay, students will learn the basics of the pottery wheel. Students will learn to center, open and raise walls, shaping and forming into functional vessels. Throughout the weeks there will be demos on how to make basic forms such as cylinders, bowls, altered pots, pitchers, mugs and more. Pottery students are bound to have a lot of fun together in this messy adventure of learning the old craftsmanship of wheel throwing, Miss Sia’s forté. All students will be taught decoration and glazing and will have the opportunity to take their work home when fired. This class is for beginning, intermediate or advanced ceramics students. Returning students will learn new skills and build off of other semesters. As they work within the structure of the studio, this class is also excellent for socialization, teamwork and cheering each other on. I teach my students to help build up a strong environment in their classroom by building each other up. The ceramic studio hence becomes a source of art therapy, camaraderie and joy.

Description:
AUG. 5-8 Firmly Planted IGNITE summer camps all start with 30 minutes of group chapel followed by 2 1/2 hours of specialty camps designed to ignite your student's faith. Cost includes a camp t-shirt. This is a fun, hands-on camp for young students who love to be creative. Each day students will focus on specific areas of God's beautiful creation as they learn techniques and make projects of their own. Students will use a variety of mixed-media combinations for 2-D and 3-D work. Themes for each day will include Birds of the Air, Fishies in the Sea, Elephants on the Plain, and Flutterbies & Flowers.
Keeping Critters is all about getting to know the Firmly Planted animals. We will be learning about the scientific traits, natural habitats, and how to care for the animals at FPHRC. In this class students will be expected to handle live animals, clean habitats, feed critters with live insects, complete fill-in-the-blank worksheets, and participate in review games. We will finish the term with a final display project to be showcased alongside our Critter Club display cases. Best of all, this class will meet all of the requirements to become a Critter Club Member! Your teachers Addison Choate and Abigail Hill are student teachers who are current leaders of the FPHRC Critter Club. They are both 14 years old and love animals. Their moms Haley Choate and Nancy Hill will be co-assistants in the Keeping Critters class.
**This class involves handling the Center's animals. In registering for this class you are acknowledging there is a risk of possible animal bites. There will be a waiver for parents to sign on the first day of class.
Requirements:
Signed Keeping Critters Waiver by a parent or guardian on the first day of class.
