Artistic Pursuits curriculum will be used as the base for this year-long course. It is designed to provide a foundational base for your elementary-aged student’s art education. This class will offer hands-on experience with drawing and a variety of fun media projects. Lessons will have a strong focus on the Seven Elements of Art (Line, Space, Shape, Texture, Value, Form, and Color) as well as design principles such as composition, balance, overlapping, proportion, movement, etc. Lessons will also include masterworks featuring some of the finest American artists. Through Artistic Pursuits, students will enjoy a comprehensive program that involves them in the creative process and encourages the development of observational skills.
Requirements:
Please note that this is a structured class that is a good fit for students that are interested in learning new things, and are able to listen and follow directions.
Parents, PLEASE make a habit of responding to Slack messages (so I know you have read them) either with a reply in thread or an emoji.
IMPORTANT: Supply & teacher payments are due August 28th. Families must respond to invoice requests by this deadline to keep their standing in the class.
This Middle School level course will focus on the Elements of Art and Composition through fun and interesting drawing projects. The course will enhance and round out your student’s education through the development of creativity, critical thinking skills, art history, and art appreciation.
Students will be taught technical skills using graphite pencils and pen and ink during the fall semester, then shift to colored pencils, soft pastels, and oil pastels during the spring semester. For the best experience, Miss Lucinda recommends following this sequence.

Since I am deaf, I will be signing at all times throughout the class and Summer St. John will be assisting if the students need help understanding what I am saying. I look forward to helping your student learn sign language in a fun filled way. There will be assigned homework this year to help round out the credit if you as the parent desire it to be a full high school language credit.
The book required to purchase for this class can be found on amazon. It is called: Barron's American Sign Language: A Comprehensive Guide to ASL 1 and 2.
Requirements:
Students must be able to conduct themselves responsibly in the class while continuing in their homework at home. Since this class is for a language credit, students must be willing to attend class, complete homework and show understanding of what is being taught in class.
