This is for students who want to strengthen their singing abilities and have fun in the process! Using whacky exercises and energetic songs, students will have fun working together as a vocal team and as singing buddies. We will explore vocal care and anatomy, breathing, ear training, beginning note reading, and theory concepts. A large focus will be on memorizing scripture through our own created melodies and presenting these at our end-of-year concert.
About the teacher:
Hi! I’m Jennifer Faulkner, a lifetime singer, worship musician, and private music teacher. I absolutely love singing and teaching students how to improv their singing voices, especially through worship that honors and praises God. While I’ve led children’s and adult church choirs, my most significant experience was creating and implementing a private school music program that included music education classes and choirs for grades 1-12. Since singing scripture is my favorite way to memorize verses, our Joyful Singer’s will have the opportunity to set favorite verses to their own created melodies…and have fun while singing!
Requirements:
1. This is for 3rd-8th grade. 2. Have a great attitude and desire to have fun while learning vocal basics and working as a team. 3. A willingness and ability to work on music assignments both in and out of class, and to memorize songs for end-of-year performance. 4. Ability to attend end-of-year performance.
This is a year-long studio art class for children going into grades K-3. Students will meet weekly with Miss Lucinda during both Fall & Spring Semesters to learn basic skills and techniques in drawing, painting, collage, and mixed media. The teacher will demonstrate while the class follows along and imitates - just as the masters and apprentices of long ago -- although there will be plenty of time for individual creativity. Students will be introduced to master artists from various historical periods and the Seven Elements of Art. This class is a good fit for children who love hands-on projects and can also listen well and follow instructions.

Wednesday - Ceramics Studio - 004: 10:00 am - 11:50 am
Description:
Students are bound to have a lot of fun together in this messy adventure of learning the old craftsmanship of wheel throwing. This is for returning pottery wheel students and beginners with no experience. Creating with their own two hands using water and clay, students will learn wheel throwing techniques with the goal of making functional pieces for use in their homes and spaces. They will be encouraged to bring their own ideas to the classroom and will be given exciting demos. While this is primarily a hands-on class, students will also be keeping a pottery notebook in which they will be encouraged to write notes, journal and sketch throughout the week. This taps into some art, design and science studies. They’ll be learning basic terminology of the ceramics studio from kiln to kaolin as they study temperatures and techniques, form and function. Over the course of 16 weeks, the ceramic studio becomes a source of art therapy, camaraderie and joy for them.
Requirements:
• Supply & teacher payments are due January 13th. Families must respond to Groupzu invoices by this deadline to keep their standing in the class.
