Join me as we study the basic chemistry and building blocks of life, marine plants and animals, and the ecosystems of the sea. We will also study these things up close and personal as we start up the Center's huge saltwater fish tank. This is the first half of a two-semester course. While we will be reading a high school level science book, this course is appropriate for upper middle school students as well as high school, and is equivalent to one science credit (if both semesters are completed.) Each student will be required to acquire and keep a loose leaf lab notebook and will be graded on the contents of that notebook. The required text for this class is Apologia's "Exploring Creation with Marine Biology." Please bring both the textbook and the lab notebook to each class each week. Daily reading assignments from the required text, worksheets and tests will be done at home while class time will be devoted to lab experiments, microscopic study, observation and documentation. An average of 5 hours of homework expected each week, but middle school students will be offered a modified homework schedule. **This class is only 15 weeks long this term as the teacher will be out of town the second week of class.
