Description:Traditionally this course is designed for elementary students but I have found it is more applicable and memorable if completed in middle school. Students will learn about income, banking, how to balance a bank account, spending and saving money, and about the roles that individuals play within an economic system. Generally, kids participate in a simulation at the conclusion of the class. We will hold our own simulation at the center where students will have a "job", earn "money", deposit their paychecks, balance their account, and shop/play at the other "stores".

Description:Calling all toddlers! In Brown Joeys, we will listen to music, eat snacks, read stories, play with toys, blow bubbles, take walks, and more. There is no shortage of hugs and cuddles as needed to overcome the strong feelings can can arise after saying a brief goodbye to a parent for class time.
Requirements:This class is in a Seedlings Co-op track. Each Seedlings track consists of two classes (Block A and B). By registering for this class, your child will automatically be registered for both blocks. Parents are required to help in a class during one of the two blocks, and will be assigned a class before the start of the session. Description:This class will be a gentle introduction to the first 1-2 chapters of most high school science courses. We will focus on unit conversions, calculator skills, graphing, the metric system, the scientific method, scientific notation, and measuring. There will be a heavy emphasis on study skills such as: taking notes in class, test taking strategies, following directions, and gleaning appropriate information from word problems.

Exploring Grammar and Sentence Writing Ages 7yr-9yr Katie Raia Spring 2024 Language Arts

Description:Join us as we explore 1st/2nd grade grammar and sentence writing while creating an interactive language arts notebook. Interactive notebooks are a place for students to record what we learn in class in a fun and engaging way. Each student will bring home their notebook at the end of the term with over 60 pages they can use to reflect, practice, and demonstrate their learning. Topics we will cover in this class will include vowel teams, beginning and ending digraphs, rhyming words, syllables, prepositions, synonyms, elements of a story, sequencing, and much more. We will also read short stories aloud, answer comprehension questions as a class, and edit “fix-it” sentences.
Requirements:Students should be reading at a Kinder/1st grade level or higher, able to sound out CVC words, and able to write a few sentences with help and encouragement. Students should also be able to use scissors and glue independently. Please make attendance and punctuality a priority for this class. Students who are excessively absent or tardy will miss out on valuable class content.

Washington State History Ages 10yr-13yr Angie Zarzana Spring 2024 Social Studies

Description:Let's learn about the beautiful state of Washington!! In this class, we will look at the history of how Washington grew from a rich territory to the 42nd state in the Union. We will look at the native communities that first called Washington home, many different countries that sought this fertile land, and the impact Washington has made on the economy of the US. Along with informative slides and videos, I will be sharing chapters of "A Horse's Tale: Ten Adventures In One Hundred Years", a book about the history of Washington told through the eyes of ten different kids from ten different regions of the state. This class is an elective with little to no outside homework.
Requirements:Come to class ready to learn and participate in class discussion.

Description:Preschool geared class time! Our daily schedule includes a block of time each day when children choose an activity from a number of developmentally appropriate options. During free choice a student might create art, build structures with blocks, engage with our sensory table or look at books from our small library. Children move freely selecting a variety of play that interests them. I use that time as an opportunity to teach and build relationships with students to help learn and facilitate conflict that arises from play. After this block of time we have a clean up warning, followed by a clean up song. When the room is complete we sit in circle time for a variety of learning games and songs. We sing each other's names and talk about the weather. Each child has an opportunity to give a report on what they see outside. We sing the days of the week, talk about colors, numbers and discuss the Calendar daily. We typically read a story, play a game,play instruments for our group activities. This facilitates cognitive development and encourages social skills such as taking turns, cooperation, reciprocal language skills, sharing and empathy. Please include a healthy snack and take your child to the restroom before each class. I will provide water and cups. Please send them in clothes that can get messy!

This one-of-a-kind program combines the pure joy of musical theater, the electrifying excitement of the circus, and the captivating art of acting, resulting in a truly enriching experience. In this class, your children will have the wonderful opportunity to explore diverse aspects of the performing arts. Through a dynamic blend of engaging games, skits, music fundamentals, and dance instruction, they will embark on a journey that serves as the perfect introduction to this incredible world. It lays a strong foundation for their future involvement in performing arts classes. Our main objective is to help students nurture their confidence, develop effective communication skills, and foster a spirit of cooperation—all while having an absolute blast on stage! Description:Is your child ready to hop, bound, run, dive, leap, jump, turn, kick and stretch ? Groovin Storytime for kids will encourage age appropriate movement and stories that help strengthen fine motor and gross motor skills while expanding our language skills. In this program, we will introduce stories and body movement in a very fun, loving and professional environment. We will work on skills such as rhythm, coordination, self confidence, discipline and structure. In addition we will also work on social skills like taking turns, making friends, teamwork and listening skills. We will use body actions to communicate an image (leaf falling) , communicate a journey (seeds growing into plants reaching for the sun) or communicate feelings such as strength and joy. Both boys and girls enjoy these classes. Stories will be preschool age appropriate and imaginative for the children. Please have your child in comfortable clothes to move in. Take your child to the restroom before class begins.
