We will stay true to the heart of the dance as a social dance and learn to lead and follow the dance, rather than learn a choreographed routine. These skills are great to learn because once someone learns how to lead and follow, it becomes much easier to learn other partner dances so students will be able to take what they learn here and apply it to future dance, movement, and even athletic endeavors! Dance shoes - flat soled tennis shoes will work. Keds or Vans encouraged or leather soled dance shoes. Jazz shoes not recommended, you may get stepped on! Social Dancing: Folk, Swing, Line, and More! Ages 11yr-19yr+ Ellie Tauscher Winter/Spring 2021 Dance
- Folk
Schedule: Wednesday - Auditorium - 002: 3:00 pm - 4:29 pm
Description:Not a dancer? Not a problem! This dancing is for everyone! Come learn some of the most fun social dances from a life-long dancer who cares more about people than technique and wants to encourage anyone who feels awkward (or comfortable!) to find their own groove on the dance floor. And seriously, some of these dances don't require much more than being able to take four steps forward, backward, or to the side. You do that everyday. This makes it fun! Introverted or worried about crowds? I hear you. I'm willing to work at your pace encouraging you try things you haven't tried before without forcing you to break boundaries you're not yet comfortable with. I believe growth comes from trying new things, but I also believe people are all unique and deserve to be treated with respect--especially regarding personal space. Still not sure? Check out some of these videos if you're curious what kinds of dances we'll do! Also, feel free to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or curiosity regarding this class! I'm happy to listen to you and share my passion for dancing with you, student or parent. :) Easy: Borrowdale Exchange: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFHBidfCyV0 Easy: Boston Tea Party: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff51H03U7FU Medium: Irish Washerwoman: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBgBbRgwr5 Hard: Dayagim: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT-U3YKf9H0 ((Hard will likely not be done in this class unless requested by all students, we will start easy learning steps and moving to more difficult dances as appropriate)) Bring: "~A water bottle! We will take frequent water breaks, but as dancing is exercise and it is quicker to drink closer to class, I recommend bringing your own container to minimize trips to the fountain. ~A good attitude! If a student is unwilling to participate due to poor attitude they will be asked to leave the class and find a parent, but if unable to dance for any other reason all students and/or parents are welcome to stay, watch, and participate as they are able. ~Comfortable shoes/socks/or feet! No flip-flops/flimsy shoes unless you're willing to dance barefoot. I also don't recommend dancing in stilettos. Ouch.
