Chess 1 Ages 6yr-8yr Amy Azevedo Winter/Spring 2021 Math
Schedule: Tuesday - Classroom - 228: 3:00 pm - 3:50 pm
Description:The game of Chess is 1500 years old and remains one of the most popular strategy games of all time. It is played in many places by all ages, all over the world. If this isn’t already exciting, it is also important to note that chess improves memory skills, social skills, perspective, creativity, and critical thinking. The Basics of Chess class will emphasize all of these skills plus teach healthy competition. The class is designed for the student who is just learning chess or has a basic understanding and wants to improve skills. The board, set up, pieces, and strategies will be taught along with some healthy and fair competition. The material fee will cover your student's own personal chess board and book. This class is probably not for your student if…. your student is already very good at chess your student is extremely competitive (sometimes students get upset losing, but if this is a consistent behavior the class will not be a good fit) your student cannot sit still through a board game your student is extremely talkative

Multiplication Ages 7yr-10yr Collette Connor Winter/Spring 2021 Math
Schedule: Monday - Classroom - 224: 1:00 pm - 1:50 pm
Wednesday - Classroom - 224: 1:00 pm - 1:50 pm
Description:PREREQUISITE - must have completed fall/winter term in order to register for this class. Not accepting new students. This will be a fun class as we work consistently through the Math U See single and multiple digit multiplication Gamma book. No previous experience with multiplication is required. However a solid foundation in addition and subtraction is highly recommended. I will be using the Math U See manipulatives as well as skip counting, dot to dot pages, and regular 5 minute math drills. I have 5 kids, have been homeschooling for 27 years, and teaching other students for about 15 years so I understand how different each student can be. As a teacher my goal is to help them succeed even if math is not their strongest subject. Over the years I have learned how vital the parent's role is in the student's success and that consistency is definitely the key in math! Therefore their assignments will consist of about 20 questions a day and 1 quiz a week. I'm looking forward to working together and getting to know you and your sweet student! This is a two day a week class.
