Introduction to Scientific Research Ages 13yr-17yr Andrew Ringnalda Winter/Spring 2021 Science
Schedule: Wednesday - Classroom - 220: 2:30 pm - 3:50 pm
Description:PREREQUISITE - must have completed fall/winter term in order to register for this class. Not accepting new students. As current events demonstrate, a lack of scientific understanding can leave students at the mercies of those who use "science" as an justification to push all sorts of political, economic, and cultural agendas. Learn what science is and what it isn't; what science can do, and what it can't do. While there are many resources available to homeschoolers for learning biology, chemistry, or physics, few courses concentrate on the methods through which scientific evidence is obtained. We will conduct various experiments showing how scientific knowledge is gained, learn the limits of science, and see how scientific knowledge is abused. Most class meetings will consist of a brief lecture followed by a lab demonstrating key concepts. We will use the Mentos/Diet Coke reaction as the basis for our first large-scale class research project further illustrating these principles. Students will finish the year with each student completing their own project, writing a science paper, and presenting their findings. Students will receive a grade for this class. A syllabus will be provided before the first class meeting. Familiarity with basic algebra is helpful but not required. Students need to bring their notebook (provided at the first class meeting) and a pen to each class. There will 2-3 hours of homework each week, which may increase as we approach the students' own projects later in the year. Students will need internet access to use our Google Classroom site and should be familiar with writing on a computer, sending emails and attachments, etc Hope you can join us! Materials Required: A blue or black ball-point pen and their lab notebook.

Luke & Acts Ages 12yr-18yr Jeff Carr Winter/Spring 2021 Theology
- Bible
Schedule: Wednesday - Dance Studio B - 118: 5:00 pm - 5:50 pm
Description:A proper study of Luke and Acts will provide an excellent introduction to the life of Christ and the church that He established with His blood. Scholars generally agree that Luke, the “beloved physician” (Col. 4:14), wrote both the gospel that bears his name and the book of Acts. The structure and language of each are similar and they are both ad-dressed to a man named Theophilus. Acts 1:1 refers to “the former account,” that Theophilus had received, referring to the book of Luke. The book of Luke is a gospel, an account of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus the Christ. The book of Acts is a history of the be¬ginning and growth of the church. When studied consecutively, one gets a panoramic view of this crucial time in history when God sent His Son to save man (Gal. 4:4) in accordance with His eternal purpose (Eph. 1:4). When finished with the study, you will know more about the person and work of Jesus Christ. You will also learn about the church He established. Not only will this information prove of great personal benefit in your pursuit of a relationship with God, but it will also provide valuable background for future Bible studies, whether in the Old or New Testament. The main approach we will use in this study is simply to read what God has said in His word and answer a few questions about what we have read. God’s word is meant to be read and understood, and then applied by every person. While we may find some of the details difficult, the main message will be clear if we read the book with an open mind. Lessons: #1 (Luke) — Preface, the Birth of Jesus and the Ministry of John the Baptizer [1:1– 2:52] #2 (Luke) — The Beginning of Jesus’ Public Ministry [3:1 – 4:13] #3 (Luke) — The Ministry In and Around Galilee [4:14 – 9:50] #4 (Luke) — From Galilee to Jerusalem [9:51 – 13:21] #5 (Luke) —The Ministry In and Around Perea [13:22 – 19:27] #6 (Luke) — Jesus’ Last Days in Jerusalem: Sacrifice and Victory [19:28 – 24:53] #7 (Acts) — Introduction to Acts [1:1 – 2:41] #8 (Acts) — The Church at Jerusalem [2:42 – 6:7] #9 (Acts) — Critical Events in the Lives of Three Pivotal Figures [6:8 9:31] #10 (Acts) — The Gospel in Palestine and Syria [9:32 – 12:24] #11 (Acts) — Paul’s First Journey and the Jerusalem Council [12:25 – 15:35] #12 (Acts) — Paul’s Second and Third Journeys [15:36 – 20:38] #13 (Acts) — Paul’s Journeys to Jerusalem and Rome [21:1 – 28:31]
