Ceramics: Hand Building with Colored Clay Ages 11yr-18yr Tracy Gregory Fall 2021 Arts

Description:Students will learn a variety of techniques using a mid-range clay body tinted with Mason Stains, such as: Nerikomi (a Japanese technique of creating patterns with colored clay) Agateware (a blending and swirling technique) Skinner Blends (rolling out colored clay in a fluid gradient). The techniques will be applied to an assortment of vessels and sculptures. Some previous experience with pottery is useful but not required. Bring sketch book and pencil.

Ceramics - Hand Building Sculptural Ages 11yr-18yr Tracy Gregory Fall 2021 Arts

Description:Students will learn hand building techniques with a mid-range clay body. The focus of the projects will be sculptural in form. Potential projects: wind chimes, garden art, figurines, luminaries. The focus will be on form and decoration with attention to the drying process and nurturing your project(s) through all the stages of greenware. Previous experience with clay is not required. Bring sketch book and pencil.

Ceramics - Hand Building Functional Ages 11yr-18yr Tracy Gregory Fall 2021 Arts

Description:Students will use hand building techniques (pinching, coil building, slab work and kunikuri) to create functional wares. Functional wares are items such as: mug, plate, platter, charcuterie board, bowl, spoon etc. Focus will be invited to give attention to the thickness of the piece, the finish of the piece: does it feel too heavy, too rough, are the joins well attended and clean? Creativity is invited to the class as well, functional pottery can be fun! No previous pottery experience needed. Bring sketch book and pencil.

Ceramics On Your Own Ages 14yr-18yr Tracy Gregory Spring 2022 Arts

Description:"This is a delight directed course for students who can demonstrate independent confidence with clay. Student must be able to identify stages of greenware, bisque and glaze. They can attach handles and pieces of clay using the slip and score method. They can explain when underglaze and glaze may be used on their work. Most importantly they have a desire to create with clay and are willing to outline their own project objectives for the term. Examples: I want to make a matching set of cups and saucers, I want to make jewelry pieces, I want to sculpt garden art. We can then discuss a quantity and time line for each project and then the student will be expected to work on their own during class. (Meaning I am here to help any way they need, but I will not be lecturing.)"

Description:"2D Art will explore several disciplines: drawing, painting, silhouette, & collage. We will be using Micron Pens, colored pencils, guache, construction paper, bristol paper, x-acto knives and various other tools and art supplies. This class is suitable for all artistic skill levels. The emphasis of this class is to expose students to 2D art mediums and to build their creative skills through the elements and principles of design. Projects may include: Abstract Drawing, Zendoodle, Perspective Drawing, Collage, Optial Art, Negative Space. In this class students will: Generate, conceptualize, organize and develop artistic ideas and work. Refine and complete artistic work. Come to class with: pencil, sketchbook (provided) and homework complete. In this class students are expected to: Be respectful, give their best effort, be prepared for class and have fun! Projects will be worked on in class and may require additional at home work. Ample amounts of work time is provided for the students, if using time allotted students will have minimal home work. Each student will receive a chipboard to keep their work neat, micron pens to keep, a sketch book and all the supplies needed to complete their projects."

Description:Spring Term 2D Art is an extension of the Fall 2D Art. The class will provide new and fresh projects along with revisiting favorites. The two classes may be taken back to back or independently. The emphasis of this class is to expose students to 2D art mediums and to build their creative skills through the elements and principles of design. Projects may include: Abstract Drawing, Zentangle, Collage, Optical Art, Negative/Positive Space, Color, Perspective, print making and Surrealism. ********Special Note: The instructor has scheduled absences this term so this is a 14 week course and the price has been adjusted to reflect the shortened term. ********

Prerequisite: a demonstrated ability to be self directed after completing beginning ceramics classes with Miss Sia or Mrs. Gregory. Most importantly students must have a desire to create with clay and are willing to outline their own project objectives for the term. Examples: I want to make a matching set of cups and saucers, I want to make jewelry pieces, I want to sculpt garden art. We can then discuss a quantity and time line for each project and then the student will be expected to work on their own during class. I am here to help any way they need, but I will not be lecturing. *Special Note: The instructor has scheduled absences this term so this is a 14 week course and the price has been adjusted to reflect the shortened term.
Requirements:Students must be able to identify the stages of clay: plastic, bone dry, greenware, bisque and glazed. Students must be able to describe “slip and score” Students can correctly place work in progress on the proper staging areas. If desiring to throw on the wheel, they may show that they have taken wheel throwing with Miss Sia or myself. Students will submit sketch’s or reference photos, before the first day of class, with projects they desire to complete. • Supply & teacher payments are due January 9th. Families must respond to Groupzu invoices by this deadline to keep their standing in the class.
