We will have you put on and take off mics, set and strike a scene, etc. This class will meet Fridays, from 2-3pm, right before show rehearsals. There will be 4-6 class times (times TBD) where crew will need to stay until 5 to rehearse with the cast to prep for the show. Our show is tentatively May 10 and 11.

Description:
In this hands-on class students will learn the basics of working with clay to construct functional pieces for their own homes and spaces, such as nature bowls and Japanese teacups, tiles and vases. As students carve, smooth and sculpt, they will be given fresh ideas on design and decoration, receiving both guidance and creative freedom. Students will glaze and take home their finished pieces when fired. Over the course of our 16 weeks together this class becomes one of the anchors in the week, a pause in the day to tap into the creative and the tactile. Students will have some cleanup chores, like washing the wooden tools and sponges in the provided water buckets and wiping down their areas after glazing days. Junior artists are bound to find great satisfaction in this class, bringing clay to life with design and patterns, weaving the art of drawing into the clay.

Students are bound to have a lot of fun together in this messy adventure of learning the old craftsmanship of wheel throwing. This is for returning pottery wheel students and beginners with no experience. Creating with their own two hands using water and clay, students will learn wheel throwing techniques with the goal of making functional pieces for use in their homes and spaces. They will be encouraged to bring their own ideas to the classroom and will be given exciting demos. While this is primarily a hands-on class, students will also be keeping a pottery notebook in which they will be encouraged to write notes, journal and sketch throughout the week.This taps into some art, design and science studies. They’ll be learning basic terminology of the ceramics studio from kiln to kaolin as they study temperatures and techniques, form and function. Over the course of 16 weeks, the ceramic studio becomes a source of art therapy, camaraderie and joy for them.

This is a CORE class that meets once a week for the full year. Parents are required to attend the mandatory Core Parent Meeting immediately following Family Orientation on either August 24th at 2pm, August 24th at 6pm, September 7th at 2pm, or September 7th at 6pm.
Along with biology and physics, chemistry is one of the core sciences studied by high school students. This is a full-year course intended to help satisfy a student’s high school science credit requirements. Learning how to perform lab work successfully and safely along with learning how to communicate lab findings through lab reports is the main emphasis of this class.
This is the lab component for the full-year chemistry lecture/review offered by Mrs. Valenti. Concurrent enrollment for both courses is required.
