Clay Play A Ages 3yr-6yr Sia Hoyt Spring 2023 Arts
- Ceramics
Schedule: Tuesday - Ceramics Studio - 004: 12:00 pm - 12:50 pm
Description:This is a hands-on class in which students have plenty of freedom to explore the wonderful medium of clay! Come with your littles each week for special parent-child time and socialization with other parents around the clay table. 5-6 year olds can be dropped off for this class, 3-4 year olds need a parent to attend with them. Some projects for the littles will include heart and handprint bows, pencil pots and thumbprint ornaments and, inevitably, many sweet little sculptural pieces of their own. You will also have the opportunity to create a handprint tile for a wall or keepsake box. In this class parents get to make little things, too, and everyone will decorate, glaze and take home their finished work once fired. Students have some minimal cleanup chores, like washing their wooden tools in the provided water buckets, wiping down their areas after glazing days and pushing in their chairs at the end of classes. Tactile contact is one of the first experiences we have in this life; it is at our roots. So this weekly gathering with clay, water and shells is a very grounding experience for students.
Requirements:***Supply & teacher payments are due January 9th. Families must respond to Groupzu invoices by this deadline to keep their standing in the class.

Understanding the Holocaust Ages 12yr-18yr Heather Cates Fall 2023 Social Studies
- World History
Schedule: Tuesday - Mentoring - 230: 11:00 am - 11:50 am
Description:This is one of the low points in human history and is not an easy subject to approach. But many things can be learned from looking back at this horrific event that resulted in the extermination of 6 million Jews and millions of other individuals. We will look at the Nazi party and the years leading up to the Holocaust so that we can understand the historical context of this time period. Students will explore the human behavior of all individuals involved - from perpetrators to victims, as well as countless others that helped them. We will attempt to approach this sensitive subject by connecting with testimonies of victims, exploring the thinking of the Nazi regime, and witnessing the unbelievable faith of many Jewish people impacted during these trials. We will investigate the responsibilities we have to help create a more just, loving, and compassionate world. Within this course, students will read The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom, Number the Stars by Lois Lowry, and the Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Parents can choose to have this course be a core class (3-4 hours of homework per week) or as an elective (0-1 hours of homework per week). Both groups will have the same in-class experience but you can choose how much outside work you want your student to have. *We will have a short period of time at the end of each class period for journaling to help transition back to normal activities.
Requirements:Students must be able to process challenging topics such as brutality, death, and the sinful depravity of humankind though we will not focus solely on these.
