Private Lessons (Guitar & Bass): Ryan Bates Ages 10yr-19yr+ Ryan Bates Fall 2023 Music
- Private Lessons
Schedule: Tuesday - Practice Room E - 115: 11:00 am - 4:50 pm
Description:Hi, I'm Ryan and I would love to give the gift of music to your child! I have a Bachelor's degree in Music Ministry from Multnomah University. You have 3 options. you can learn acoustic guitar, focusing on chord shapes and rhythm. You can learn electric guitar, focusing on chords, arpeggios, lead lines, tabs and tone. Or you can learn bass guitar, focusing on fretboard memorization, tabs, rhythm, and groove. My emphasis and approach is that music should be practical and life-giving. This means there will be a foundation of theory, and scales that every guitarist needs to know but there will be a focus on practical playing and fretboard fluency. There's nothing better than having the freedom to create music! Pricing is $100 per month for weekly 30 min. lessons or $135 for 45 min. lessons.
Requirements:You'll need the instrument you're learning. If you have an electric guitar or bass, you should have an amplifier. Feel free to ask me about recommendations. In terms of age, there isn't a requirement but I've found that the teenage years are the best period of time to learn guitar. You'll need enough dexterity and hand-eye coordination to learn. I'll purchase curriculum and can be reimbursed.

Private Lessons (Violin & Viola): Natalie Schoenborn Ages 3yr-19yr+ Natalie Schoenborn Fall 2023 Music
- Private Lessons
Schedule:
Description:Hi! My name is Natalie Schoenborn. I am a violist who studied violin for 10 years before deciding to focus on viola. In other words - I play two instruments but viola is the one I most enjoy performing! I have a Bachelor of Music degree with a double major in Viola Performance and Music Education and have taught both violin and viola lessons for a number of years. I enjoy teaching a wide range of ages and skill levels and aim to meet each of my students where they are to help them reach their goals! No previous musical experience is required for these lessons, though I do teach intermediate and advanced players as well. Please feel free to reach out to me either on Slack or via email (ngschoenborn@gmail.com) if you have any questions about lessons. The cost is $30 per half hour lesson each week or $50 per full hour lesson (due before the start of each lesson). Lessons are individually scheduled with the teacher.
Requirements:The student must own or be able to rent a violin or viola (please contact the teacher for recommendations if unsure). This instrument must at least be basically maintained (4 strings installed, a working bow, etc.) and regularly tuned at home by the student or parent. - The student must bring sheet music or book(s) to lesson every time and is responsible for purchasing these materials, as needed (the teacher will provide handouts, scale fingerings, etc. but will not provide books and published pieces of music). As a private lesson teacher, I am open to working based on each individual student's interest or out of a book the student has previously used. However, if the student is just beginning my default will be to use Essential Elements Book 1. - The student must either (1) consistently bring a paper notebook to lessons (this is for the teacher or student to take notes) or (2) commit to regularly logging onto a Google Doc to reference the teacher's notes during daily practice time. - Regular, consistent practice is expected (minimum 4-6 days per week). Practice time varies according to the age/level of the student (and the amount of progress desired!). 15 minutes per day for a beginner just starting out is fine, but 30 or more minutes a day is required for all other skill levels. The teacher may request that a practice journal be kept. - If the student is late for a lesson or there is a no-show (missed lesson without communication before the day of the lesson, except in case of dire emergency or unpredictable illness), the cost of the lesson will still be charged and no make-up lesson time will be given.
