Musical Theater Kids Club Ages 6yr-11yr Rene Cooper Spring 2023 Theater
Schedule: Tuesday - Auditorium - 002: 1:00 pm - 1:50 pm
Description:The child’s natural instinct for play is the foundation of the actor’s process. Using the game of make believe to get into the “shoes” of the character, we begin to play with the possibilities that game invites in us. In order to believe I am the character, I must begin to learn all I can about who “I” am in the role: what surrounds and affects me, what I know, where I have been and where I am going; what I want, and what I do to get it or to make it happen. We use improvisation to awaken and explore creative impulses. Theatre games and exercises expand imagination, awareness, concentration, expressiveness, and help build skills of communication, cooperation, and collaboration. Through text work designed for the young performer, we make strong, specific, meaningful connection to the language and circumstances of the play, bringing the author’s words to life. Through acting, young people gain compassionate insight about themselves and about the world around them; gain poise and confidence; develop problem-solving skills; and engage with peers. The musical Newsies and other group ensemble pieces will be the focus for our group collaboration. There will be no formal performance for this class, but we may perform at the craft faire in the spring.

- Improv
Schedule: Thursday - Auditorium - 002: 3:00 pm - 4:50 pm
Description:Theatre Club Jr. is a class for younger students aged 7-12, who want to be part of a theatre production. Whether your child wants to be a star, or just experience being on stage for the first time, Theatre Club Jr. is the place to be. For the Spring Semester we will be performing “ The Enchanted Bookshop.” This is a funny and heartwarming story about a book store owner, who is trying to keep her book shop open. With technology everywhere, the books in her book shop are rarely sold. What the book shop owner doesn’t know is that at night when she is sleeping, the book story characters come to life and try to find a way to save her book shop. This streamlined program requires some volunteer parent involvement, mainly for student supervision while the director is working with students on stage. Theatre Club Jr. is comprised of 16 class rehearsals, one dress rehearsal, and one performance. Our performance will be on May 23, 2024.
Requirements:All students need to 7-12 years old. Parents need to work with their child to memorize their lines. Parent participation is appreciated if you are available for student supervision. There is a mandatory parent meeting @ 5:00-5:30 PM. on February 1, 2024 after our first class. Families will need to purchase the costume for their child's character. (Selected by the director)
