Folk Art & Design - Junior Ages 10yr-14yr Sia Hoyt Winter/Spring 2021 Arts
Schedule: Thursday - Dance Studio B - 118: 1:00 pm - 1:50 pm
Description:In this unique class, junior artists will study folk art and design. A favorite, kiddos adore this class because it delivers fresh ideas and new appreciation of the designs around us everyday, instilling confidence of drawing freely and simply. There will be inspiration drawn from books containing simple illustrations and border designs. With help, students will craft their own little books with a watercolor cover and illustrations within and a full portfolio including their assigned projects and personal free time work. There will be teacher demos and plenty of encouragement.

Elementary Ceramics I Ages 6yr-10yr Sia Hoyt Winter/Spring 2021 Arts

Description:Working with clay, water and their own two hands, students will learn basics of hand building with clay. They will learn to make pinch pots, tiles, sculptural creations and slab containers. Junior potters are bound to have a blast in this tactile, social arts class. Classes will be loosely structured combining projects, goals and plenty of creative flow. In addition, students will learn how to glaze, coming home with their finished, fired creations. In addition to class, ceramics students ages 11 and up will also have the opportunity to come for open studio time 1 to catch up on projects and get more clay time in. Ceramics level: beginning and intermediate.

Pottery Wheel Junior Ages 10yr-14yr Tracy Gregory Fall 2023 Arts

Description:This class is for beginning and returning pottery wheel students. Students will be guided in wheel throwing techniques with the goal of making functional pieces for use in their homes and spaces. They will be encouraged to bring their own ideas to the classroom and will be given exciting demos. While this is primarily a hands-on class, students will also be keeping a pottery notebook in which they will be encouraged to write notes, journal and sketch throughout the week. Students will also receive instruction in basic terminology of the ceramics studio pertaining to clay body, stages of clay becoming ceramics and the many curious and helpful tools potters use to create their own signature style. Teaching through lecture, note taking, demonstration, and 1:1 instruction will all be explored in our studio.
Requirements:All supplies, consumable and shared are provided with the supply fee for this class. This class is a good fit for students who work well in a multi-sensory environment as the studio is alive with sights, smells and sounds, sometimes simultaneously; all while having their hands in lots of clay and water.

Pre-K Clay M Ages 3yr-6yr Tracy Gregory Fall 2023 Arts

Schedule: Monday - Ceramics Studio - 004: 12:00 pm - 12:50 pm
Description:In this weekly gathering of parents and students we will be gleaning inspiration for our projects through stories read aloud each week. Students will be guided through the basics of clay sculpture, pinch pots, coil making and more. This tactile medium will be used to help cultivate fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, attention to detail and storytelling. Parents of 3 & 4 year old students will attend together, 5 year olds may be dropped off or parents may choose to stay for the class as well. Projects will range from a small guided project completed in one day, projects that may take two or more sessions to complete. The class will touch on sculptural and functional wares over the course of our 16 weeks together.
Requirements:Students ages 4 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
